With this issue, I bid a fond farewell to “Avengers Academy.” Not every issue was a home run, (Nobody bats a thousand.) but on the whole, this was a great series. I am glad that the comic is going out on a note that is classy, sophisticated and memorable. And who knows? Perhaps we will see this concept again. I was a big fan of DnA’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and now that comic is being turned into a film. There is not a lot of action in this issue, just one finely wrought character scene after another. Poor Finesse loses a friend, and a boyfriend, and is finally consoled by Quicksilver, of all people. Stryker has a date with a fan that succeeds both on the personal level, and on his reality show. Mettle and Hazmat react rationally when Hank Pym tells them that he still cannot cure them. I thought this scene was different for a comic, since the hero usually starts smashing things when he or she gets bad news of this nature. We learn that the depowered Veil has learned to stand up for herself when she returns to high school, and the other kids start throwing her shade. “Avengers Academy” has often been funny, and Christos Gage includes some humor in this issue that comments on the comic book industry while also working in the story. Mettle tells Finesse, “I still think you’d make a really hot super villain. Maybe put a boob window in the suit, some stiletto heals …”
Tom Grummett is an underrated artist who has been an excellent penciler for this series. I see the influence of Sal Buscema and George Perez in Grummett’s style, and this makes the series feel very Avengers-like. Grummett’s facial expressions and body language are right on point. You can feel Finesse’s sadness as she walks around campus, eyes downcast. Grummett’s adolescents look distinct from the adults. I hope that Marvel has some assignments for Grummett in the future.

Good review. I loved this series and this issue. I dropped the series for about 7-8 issues after the move to the west coast. I picked it back up at the end. Very strong conclusion.
