Gage does a great job in this issue of commenting on the big AvX event while telling his own story, one that ties up some threads going back to the early issues of Avengers Academy. Jeremy Brigg's line, "Remember that big super-powered fight that devastated cities, killed a whole bunch of people and changed absolutely nothing? Which one, am I right" sums up the way I (and probably many other people) feel about these events. There was great promise of something new happening here, particularly with the idea of granting powers on a merit-based system. Briggs reads like a modified Lex Luthor, who thinks there's great potential in humanity, even those with superpowers, but the "heroes and villains" prevent anything *real* from being accomplished. The betrayal at the end, and the exchange between Big Zero and Coat of Arms, however, takes what could have been a great story and makes it what will most likely end up being hero vs. villain-who-doesn't-think-he's-a-villain battle. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing how this series ends.
