Going into this issue, I had high hopes. I’ve liked all the other Avengers relaunch issues, and I thought that the first issue of this series was quite good. So I was hoping that this would continue that trend, but unfortunatly, it didn’t quite do that.

First off, as I’ve said before, I’m just not that big into time travel stories. They get often get so confusing and lost that I just can’t keep track or make sense of a lot of things, just from a logical standpoint. But even besides that, I just didn’t think this was entirely all that good. Something about the characters, that I couldn’t quite pinpoint exactly, just felt off. Also, the Wonder Man part of the story seemed very rushed and out of place.

And now, on to the art. I’ve never been a huge Romita Jr. fan, and this issue didn’t do anything to sway my thoughts about him. I know that I’m in the minority with this, seeing as most people highly praise his work, but I honestly just don’t get it. His characters often look unusually drawn in my opinion, and I know that it’s just his style, but I doesn’t fit my tastes. There are plenty of comic artists out there who have unusal, or unconventional styles, and I often like them, but Romita Jr just doesn’t do it for me.

All this aside, there was one part to the issue that I liked, and it was the last page. I’m not going to give spoilers, but it interested me enough, just from a standpoint of “That’s awesome, I want to see what happens next”. So I’ll probably give this series another issue, but if it doesn’t turn pretty good by then, I’m dropping it.
