I’ve been really torn on this book during Fear Itself. I love Bendis’ dialogue, but I just don’t think the talking heads are an effective use of pages. I mean three whole pages devoted exclusively to Maria Hill talking. I would have rather seen this presented Pax Romana style – give me a chunk of text with a nice full page illustration if you have to.

And on the literal other end of the spectrum, we get nearly silent action sequences for the rest of the book. Romita really cut loose here and did a great job, which I suppose is to be expected when about a third of the book is talking heads or a single figure talking against a neutral background.

So I’m torn. I enjoyed the book as a whole, but only because I really liked the elements I liked and didn’t totally hate the elements I didn’t like.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I thought I gave the art a 4? Could have been my mistake (writing reviews on my ipad with sausage fingers maybe wasn’t the best idea)

@iFanboy – The ability to edit reviews and ratings would be a neat new feature.

  2. Nice review. I just can’t get the book though. I have such a dislike for Romita, Jr’s current art style.

I’m with ya. We really need that “Edit Review” feature back.
