Holy crap. Avengers #1 just brought tears to my eyes.

Now THAT is what I want from an Avengers comic!!!!

Ultimate Spidey is my favorite superhero title and has been for years. And it’s probably cause Bendis writes great stories about people standing strong against a hostile world. Lends itself particularly well to a teen Spidey and mutants (in a world that hates and fears them ect)
But those aren’t the kind of stories I personally want to see the Avengers in.

I want to see the Avengers in stories about epic epicness of epic proportions! Big ideas. Bigger than life heroes. And big idealism. Basically, like I said: EPIC heroism of the highest and most over-the-top nature.

Ladies and gentlemen… My hat is off for Mr. Jonathon Hickman and Jerome Opena. Today they just served a masters class in what many of us have always wanted from a book billing itself as “marvel’s mightiest heroes assembled”

For my money, this book read like what I’d imagine Cap shouting “Avengers Assemble!” ought to sound like: adrenaline pumping superheroism of the highest order.

  1. Good review.

I prefer small teams (5-7) because they allow more characterization and development.

Going to give this a couple months and hope the large team doesn’t ruin it for me.
