The first issue of this came out in 2005?! Really?

Anyway, it’s over at long last. While I certainly haven’t hated this storyline, it has just not had the great stuff in it that I’ve come to expect from Astro City. Maybe it was the main characters, who both just seemed like a couple of douche bags from day 1 to me. This issue wraps everything up fairly neatly, although it does leave the usual number of Astro City loose ends to tantalize the readers.

The big climactic events in this one were pretty great, and the art was good as usual. The Pale Horseman was probably my favorite visual character, much more then the rather boring looking villian. The final resolution of the Silver Agent was a little anticlimactic. I guess we’ve already seen all of his time travel shenanigans, but I would have at least liked something more either between him & the Williams brothers or him and the people in general.

Oh, and the alternate cover is almost worth the whole price of the book. Sure, it’s a bit cheesy and trite, but it’s classic Alex Ross, featuring everybody’s favorite Superman analog, and a real-life tragedy that’s been exploited before(notably in Superman comics), but it works for me at least.

  1. Douche bags?  Huh?  The brothers were anything but that.  I thought the brothers were the best part.  But the whole story was so convoluted.  Art was confusing…or was it the story?
