Like many writers in comics right now, it appears that Marjorie Liu has a really interesting story to tell but lacks the dexterity to hold on to the reader. The dialog is a frenzy of cliches that occasionally describe what’s happening but rarely progress the story. Instead, it muddles the events. It’s like looking through glass that’s been covered in palm prints: you can still see everything on the other side but it exhausts the eyes.

The first three pages of art live up to the meticulous cover. Then it becomes typical. Not at all bad, just disappointing after the initial pages.

I keep picking this comic up in hopes that it will someday be as good as it was during the Whedon/Cassady run. I don’t need it to be the same style, but I’d like it to be the same caliber. Sadly, it continues to be one of the many X books that lacks a spark.
