So, Warren Ellis has returned to the world of Widescreen Comics Action. And so far, it’s working, more or less.

I didn’t bother to write anything on #25. It was all pretty much covered by everyone else.  “TThe characters sound wrong.” “The art is probably good, but you can’t see it through the coloring.” And finally, “It’s not Whedon/Cassaday’s Astonishing.” Well, All of those are valid criticisms (exept for the Whedon thing; Ellis is his own man) and all are addressed in this ish. The dialogue is beginning to sound less like Ellis and more like the characters he’s writing. There are some false notes here and there, but overall it’s a marked improvement. Still don’t know about the story itself, but it’s a better read, anyway.

And the art: now that I can SEE IT, it’s gorgeous. There’s detail on every page that’s worth re-viewing and studying. The junked spaceships look every bit as cool as anything Heavy Metal or the French sci-fi guys put out. It’s real nice to look at.

I said I’d give it two issues to decide whether to keep it on the pull list. 25 almost had me drop it; 26 had made me commit to the long haul.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
