This is continuing to impress me.

The story seems like somewhere Animal Man has never gone before. Yes, he went into weird places in Morrison’s run, and this is also a trip into the weird, but it’s not the same sort of weird. It’s great to see the character faced with a different sort of challenge that he doesn’t understand, but the challenge is connected to his identity.

I wasn’t over the moon on the art last time around. I’m still not, but it is neat in places. It’s tough to tell whether the art is the way it is due to the artist’s shortcomings or due to intentional stylization. Either way, the book looks good.

A month ago, I didn’t think I’d be reading an Animal Man series. It’s a happy surprise to find the series to be this interesting and solid.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good

  1. Of the few of the 52, this is one I really enjoy enough to stick with. Story is intriguing and the art is well suited for the feel it’s striving for. I can’t say enough! Five thumbs up!
