If you read and enjoyed Delano and Pugh’s run on Animal Man back in the early years of the Vertigo imprint you’ll find this first issue familiar in a comforting sort of way.

Artwise, Travel Foreman’s pencils are imaginative and beautiful. It is unlike everything we’ve seen in the new DC line up so far. Very natural yet polished with a nod to design sensibilities. I usually read comics for the story and characters but I am very curious to see Foreman’s style develop in this book.

There isn’t much to speak of story wise and I’m not sure I understand how Animal Man fits in the new DCU timeline (which is fine, perhaps more of a complaint about the DCU than this book) but Lemire puts all the pieces in place for what could be an interesting first arc.
