Christos Gage, Rebekah Issacs, and Dan Jackson are knocking this story arc out of the park in Angel & Faith #12. Many fans have commented (and I agree) that this is the story that they've been waiting for. The platonic dynamic between Angel and Faith is engrossing, and it's been a pleasure to see Gage juxtapose these two characters on the other side of their spectrum: while Angel makes morally questionable decisions trying to bring Giles back from a non-magical death, Faith watches closely to pull him back from the edge and provides him with moral wisdom. The comic format provides a great medium to explore Quor-toth, which was alluded to as a dimension of hell in the series but never explored deeply. It's been fun to see a grouping that I never would have thought would work: Angel, Faith, Connor, and Willow compliment each other well and hold their own during interactions. What strikes me the most about this arc is the characters' individual drives. In this issue we see Angel and Faith taking a little breather from the forefront while the story explores Willow's journey to return magic to Earth before it rots from the inside out and Connor's responsibility to the faithful followers that he's inspired. I'd argue that the characters seem more "like themselves" in this series vs. Buffy Season 9 so far. The last few pages jump back to Earth and reveal more of Whistler's shenanigans (big bad's plans starting to come together?) to end the issue on a deadly hook. This series has been doing a great job of keeping both the issues and arcs fast-paced and ending with a nice hook line or image to make sure fans are waiting eagerly for the next one.
