The Muppet Show Comic Book series is one of the most creatively successful books I've read this year, and issue # 4 is the best to-date. Writer/artist Roger Langridge perfectly captures not only the look of the Muppets, but also their individual voices and personalities. Reading these issues, I could literally hear Jim Henson, Frank Oz & company performing these lines in my head. And the way Langridge structures and paces the issues really gives them the feel of long-lost Muppet Show episodes.
This final issue of this mini-series goes out on top by focusing on the queen of the Muppets, Miss Piggy. Of course her throne is challanged and traditional Muppet high jinks ensue, but in the end Piggy gets her woman...and her frog.
Anyone interested in becoming a comic professional or how comic stories are told should pick up this series, even if the Muppets aren't your bag of felt and ping-pong balls. Langridge conveys a lot of information in not a lot of space, with each page telling its own mini-story, combining to form the bigger stories of the different scenes and ultimately the whole issue. This is how you do it, folks.
Boom! Studios really struck pay dirt when they hired Langridge for this book, and I'm stoked to hear he'll be doing more Muppet minis in the (hopefully near!) future!
