Much like the Avengers The Origin series, this comic has no idea when it takes place.  A first meeting between Cap and Spider-Man where Steve Rodgers and the original team of Avengers are present, and Steve is talking about the WikiEncyclopedia Computer while he and Spidey thwart an old-fashioned bank robbery.  Some people are ok with that kind of thing, but I find it grating.  And it colored my experience of this pleasantly forgettable comic.  The art on it is great, and the stories are like Pringles, fun while you’re reading them, but nothing you really crave.

The back story is one of those Character Meets Stan Lee meta stories.  Busiek is writing it so, as far as characters meet Stan Lee, it’s alright, but it’s still characters meeting Stan Lee.  I just don’t see how anyone besides Stan Lee gets excited about things like that.

Both artists on this book, Siquiera  and Olliffe do great job with that modern-retro-modern look that Spidey picked up during The Gauntlet.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Curse Marvel’s forever floating timeline! Honestly it does get pretty confusing.
