In this issue, Slott writes a lighter, throwback-ier "Aw Shucks" type of Spidy story that is all kinds of fun. It has a general all ages feel that is a nice departure from his previous writing that had a more serious tone. There are so many classic moments and dialogue gems that this story is so much fun to read. In the beginning, Peter and Carlie are in their apartment discussing whether or not they are ready for doing something....possibly "it" when Carlie gets a page for a CSI emergency and Peter sees the FF symbol up in the sky. Off they go as Peter literally "mumble grumbles" and meets up with the FF proudly wearing a Blue Fantastic Four Styled Spidy suit....and Ben is NOT happy with that. He falls in line, puts on his white FF costume which he insists is "reverse Venom", jumps in the Fantasticar with the team and run off through space and time they go to repair the universe. We get a series of mini adventures that remind you of classic FF stories with a throwback to a more innocent time in comics.

Pulido kills it with his pencils and brings a retro style to this book, which combined with the story, creates that Kirby/Lee/Ditko kinda feel and just makes you smile the whole way. There are some beautiful panels and spreads and combined with the dialogue gems, its just good times. My only knock is that the exceptional Djurdjevic cover, just didn't fit at all with the book...a touch too serious.

Slott is doing something really special with this run and is taking us on an adventure that is shaping up to be a classic. This book reminded me of being a kid reading some "aw shucks" kinda superhero comics, and that kinda thing is just so rare these days. Highly recommended...but only if you want to have fun with your comics.
