Despite just how awesome the Rhino issue was, Spiderman’s The Gauntlet is not for me.  I don’t really like the retro art.  I’m not enjoying the old villains (again, The Rhino is the exception).  And I’m not having as much fun with this title as I had been having throughout most (but not all) of Brand New Day.

There’s some fun, light hearted, dialog here , which I enjoyed, but the overall story just seems way over the top with supposed twists.  Twists that we, the readers, know about ahead of time, but that the characters aren’t supposed to. And while I do like that Slott is making his Spider characters smarter than most comic book writers do (his Capt. Watanabe is written like an actual cop and not a plot device to get in Spider-Man’s way), the overall story is not clicking to me.  I’m giving it a four on both counts because I acknowledge that it is a good issue, it’s just not one that was tailor-made for a fan like me.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 4 - Very Good

Comments

  1. Is it more like last week’s issue?  Or is it like the beginning of Gauntlet.

  2. More like last week’s.  Again, not a bad issue, just not my thing.
