I may be becoming a grouchy old comic fan, but I liked comics back when they didn’t have this annoying early 90s Vertigo color pallete.  I don’t want Spider-Man to look like Criminal or Incognito or whatever noir Val Staples is currently working on.  I like the vibrant Bachalo Spider-Man or even the Romita Sr’s black and white newspaper prints, but not this psuedo pop art crap that’s quickly becoming the rage.

AND GET OFF MY DAMNED LAWN!!!!!

The story is excellent, and it seems like they’re tapering off on the footnotes (which, really can’t be pulled off by anyone other than Stan Lee himself).  If, in ten or fifteen years, they redraw The Gauntlet story, the way they’re redrawing The Clone Saga, I’ll probably use those issues to replace this current run.  It’s just not for me.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 2 - Average

  1. …..how did you get your books already?!

  2. ok just read your profile. you must work in a shop. lol

  3. ok i read the WHOLE profile now. you do. i’ve pwned myself…i’m out!

  4. You are really giving Javier Pulido a 2 for art?  I guess I am in the minority in that I see him as the other perfect new Spider-Man artist behind Marcos Martin.

  5. @Bean: I just don’t like his art.  If I were rating my enjoyment of it, I’d give it a 1, but I do recognize that he has talent.  I think Josh rally likes hiw rok, too.  For my taste, it’s too retro.  I feel that comics moved past this style of art over twenty years ago.
