Crap! I’m being let down left and right this week! This was another issue I was really psyched for, especially after the fill-in last week (No JR JR = fill-in. Sorry Barry Kitson fans), and I was left feeling disappointed. I guess I’m just not satisfied with the way all the subplots are wrapping up. I never really liked the Menace as a character, so I really didn’t care about his identity. Except for when the character was first introduced, and there were hints that the Menace could be the alter ego of Jackpot. Now THAT would have been interesting. Same thing goes for the Spider-Tracer Killings, a subplot I also wasn’t too keen on to begin with. The revelations left me cold. Maybe it’s because I feel like the post-”Brand New Day” stories that have been the strongest are the ones that almost completely eschewed the main arc and focused on Spider-Man fighting newer villians. Issues #559 – #561, the Paperdoll issues with the gorgeous artwork by Marcos Martin come to mind. Those issues, however, did include Mary Jane, whose sub-plot I’m worried won’t be resolved in a satisfying way. Maybe after all the baggage is taken care of, Post BND ASM will finally hit full stride. And more Marcos Martin and JR JR, please!
