I'm officially dropping this book. There were way too many moments where I was confused, or angry, or just plain upset with the book. When Spider-man finds Freak (most disgusting villain ever, and I defy you to prove me wrong) in the meth lab, Spidey thinks "He's smoking . . . meth or something!" That is something 15 year old Peter Parker would say, not the 30-something Spider-man that is supposed to be in this book. And when the book catches on fire on the next page, I had no idea what was going on. Furthermore, the book appears to be completely separate from the rest of the Marvel Universe. He mentions the Avengers at one point and I thought, "He's still on that team?" With all the fundraisers and parties he goes to, when does he have time to hang out with Luke and Danny at the Sanctum Sanctorum? And why in Stan Lee's name did Peter think it would be a good idea to visit J Jonah as Spider-man?
I was willing to give the reboot a try, because I love Spider-man and always have, but I think he just lost too much in One More Day. The new Spider-man doesn't feel as mature as he used to, like he has lost his reason to fight. MJ always gave him a reason to keep fighting, a reason to go home at night. Maybe it's just me, but he no longer feels like an adult, and I miss that maturity in his character. There's no more depth, no more personality, just a flat character, punching and wise-cracking every issue. Somebody let me know when the Skrulls show up.
