The Western genre has never done much for me, so Jonah Hex was a character i always wanted to try due to the buzz but usually avoided due to the genre. I thought this would be a great opportunity to take a chance, and boy am i glad i did.

Hex shows up in 19th Century Gotham as a hired gun to track down an American “Jack the Ripper” What we basically have here is Batman dressed in a Confederate uniform carrying a six shooter…which i think is pretty fun. By putting Hex in an urban environment it makes an easy transition for “new to the character” readers like me, who are predisposed against Westerns. I did get tripped up a bit on “Hex Speak” but i think that will get easier with time.

I really loved Moritat’s art in this. A joy to read and look at all around. Of all the 52’s so far, i think this is one of my favorites. Can’t wait for the next issue!
