I really don’t know very much about Jonah Hex. I never read any of the comics, and I didn’t see the movie. So I can’t tell you if this is anything like what came before or not. It will have to stand on it’s own for me.

I suppose my impression is that the idea of old timey Gotham is more interesting as an idea than it is here in the execution. I really did enjoy seeing Dr. Arkham at work. Seems like they are trying to channel Sherlock Holmes a bit. Some of the other allusions to gotham, like Wayne and Cobblepot and so on just seem a little forced to me. It’s not bad but just not fully fleshed out it seems.

The story presents a neat little murder mystery, with a serial killer on the lose who seems to based on Jack the Ripper. I did enjoy the “they’re screwed” revelation of the rings everyone is wearing.

the art seems strange to me, lacking in detail but not bad. I think they are trying for an old time-y look but it just doesn’t exactly work for me. Not bad, just not my thing.

I will keep reading this, they did draw me in with the murder mystery conspiracy and Dr. Arkham, if not so much with Jonah Hex

3 and half out of 5 stars

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good
