With Snyder's Superman Unchained and Pak's Batman/Superman off to solid starts, New 52 Superman seems to be back on track. But while Supes steps boldly into new directions in these titles, it is still nice to dust off past incarnations of the iconic character to remind ourselves what makes him so great in the first place. Enter Adventures of Superman #4, a collection of online first stories that manages to crystalize everything we love about Big Blue within the span of a few pages. This issue forms a triptych of narrative perspectives, with the focal points being Lex Luthor, an average Metropolite, and Ma Kent respectively. While all three stories work together to provide a satisfying blend of edification, pathos, and fun- I have to say my favorite of the bunch has to be "The Deniers", written by Tom DeFalco with art by Pete Woods. The story uses a number of ironic counterpoints to demonstrate just how easily cynicism can blind someone to the good occurring around them every day. Who better to make this point than Superman? All around an incredible anthology topped off by a classic looking Bruce Timm cover!
