So if you walk into this knowing a lot about Superman, and treat this book as just an anthology of collected short stories–but NOT as anything like Action, or Superman etc — I think you’ll probably dig it.
I’ve never been much of a Superman reader outside of Byrne’s mini and Moore’s couple stories. I still know most of the referenced characters, though.
I enjoyed this a lot. I know it’s been polarizing for many readers.
Just gotta know what you’re getting into, I think.

Good review! Agreed.
If you liked Byrne’s Man of Steel mini, you might like his early issues of Superman and his Action Comics run from that time (1986-1987). Action, especially, was meant for newer readers, since almost all those stories were done-in-ones and were team-up stories.
I have found almost all issues of each in $1 boxes at comic shops and flea markets pretty easily. issue 1 of Superman is a bit harder to find at that price, but I bet you can get it for less than $3 at most LCSs.
Some folks don’t like the Byrne era, but i enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks for the recommendation. I just got his Fanstastic Four Omnibus for 60% off cover from my LCS.
Some of my favorite comics from the 1970’s and ’80s have Byrne art and/or writing.
Good choice, and good price on the FF book!
