I most definitely didn’t see this one coming out of left field.  This has to be the best issue of Action Comics I ever read in my life, and I’ve been alive for almost 30 of Action’s 70 years.

The strange thing about it is that I hadn’t been enjoying the latter issues of Cornell’s Lex Luthor run.  The Larfleeze issue was cool of course, I love Larf, but I was feeling that the run was starting to get stiff a little bit after the appearance of Lady Death.  Believe it or not, I didn’t enjoy the Joker issue, and anybody who reads my reviews absolutely knows Batman is by far my favorite iconic character in all the realm of pulp fiction, so I was surprised to find out that I wouldn’t enjoy the exchange between Luthor and Joker.

Although there were long drawn out parts of the arc, this issues shines light on some of the parts that I didn’t totally agree with before, and makes sense of them now.  Cornell wrapped up a lot of stuff in this issue, and seeing it all unfold next to some very consistent artwork, and I mean “throughout the entire run” type consistent.

Seeing the final page of this issue has me in high hopes of seeing #900.  Now I really feel like the next issue is going to have much to live up to!!
