On one hand, I like seeing Paul Cornell get his hands on the insane team that is the Secret Six. On the other hand, I read that series in trade so I’m a little hesitant to pick this up cause I’m behind on the team. There is a time where you need to suck it up and screw tradition, and this is one of those times. Paul Cornell writing Secret Six? Hell you can’t miss that opportunity.

While this issue isn’t as funny like the last issue, it sure is crazy to read. So many twists and turns in this issue, it’s hard to keep track of it all. If it isn’t Lex and Vandal fighting, it’s the Secret Six blowing everything up to hell. Or we could have a moment where a certain villain comes back to get back at Lex and then get a glimpse at a revelation with robotic Lois Lane. So much is going on in this issue and Cornell handles it very well and it never gets confusing to read. I will say that his take on the Secret Six, while good, is very limited. He does a good job with Scandel and Ragdoll; but the rest don’t get much to do. I wish we could get more of a look at how Cornell writes the team, but considering this Lex’s book now, I guess we shouldn’t focus on them too much.

Pete Woods art is servicable at best, but so-so at worst. Faces still look pretty off and the anatomy can be somewhat ridiculous. Bane looks really hilarious in some panels because Woods just makes him look like a freak in every panel. I just wish we could have a better artist to make this great run by Cornell even better.

If there is anything about this issue I really want is that Cornell write Secret Six. That isn’t to say Gail Simone isn’t doing a great job (with what I’ve read), she is. But Cornell could do a lot of crazy things with the team if given the chance. This issue overall is written very well with all the craziness and it advances the plot in ways I didn’t expect. I’m looking forward to Secret Six next month, but also for the future for this series with what Cornell hints at in the end.
