In a week of strong contenders, I went with this as my “Pick of the Week” for three reasons.

1) Superman wasn’t struggling with his humanity; he was struggling with his super-ness. How much is too much? How far is too far? It all felt grounded in reality which made it all the more meaningful.

2) The conceit of “Clark Kent is dead!” Come on, that’s just a potentially fun concept!

3)Supes’ supporting cast being used to flesh out the story and showing the difference between a supporting cast and a bunch of people who happen to be in the same comic.

Both writers and artists just nailed it all for me this issue. The story actually made me feel for Clark/Superman. And when that happens, it’s some fine work, IMO.

I’m psyched to see where this goes next!

  1. I really liked this issue as well, although I’m confused as to why they’re moving from the t-shirt costume to the armor and back again. Are there flashbacks? Does Morales and Morrison just like the t-shirt better? I kinda do, but I’m a sucker for Golden Age take no prisoners Superman and hope that part of the character doesn’t vanish.

  2. I was confused by the timeframe of the story. If it’s going back to right after the defeat of Brainiac, wouldn’t it be before the foundation of the Justice League? And if it’s after the events of the first arc of JL, why were Green Lantern and Flash surprised that Batman was a billionaire? Since he revealed himself to them in that arc. Aside from this, I realy enjoyed the issue anyway.

  3. I actually agree as I was a bit confused by the transition between outfits too. Fortunately, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment. (And the iFanboys have a bit of an explanation in their POTW audio commentary).
