Do you enjoy the neo-classic writing styles of James Robinson?  Do your eyes grow at the sight of Marcos Martin drawing Nazis getting punched?  Does the thought of a pre-Super Soldier Steve Rogers embroiled in a chase with spies straight out of a Hitchcockian suspense thriller grab you?  Well, have I got a book for you!

Celebrating 70 years since the rise of then-Timely Comics, Marvel is releasing a handful of specials of their earliest heroes, starting with Captain America, complete with a nice little "Timely" logo up top.  Written by James Robinson and bee-yooou-tifly drawn by Marcos Martin, this story follows the same vein of the 65th anniversery special Brubaker made with Martin a few years ago in examining Cap's younger years.  Set between the point of Steve Rogers' 4F classification and his induction into the super-soldier program.  Given a mysterious amulet by a man dying via The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rogers is chased by a trio of spies (one of which bears a passing resemblance to Peter Lorre...) through New York.  You scoff at the thought of such a sickly waif jumping onto trains and beating down Nazi spies?  Psh.  Communist...

Also, you get a back-up reprint of Captain America Comics 7 from Cap architects Simon and Kirby.  Even then, young Kirby was a master of the comic art, the pages crackle with energy and craft.  All in all, it's quite well worth checking out.  In fact, I petition for a second Captain America book to be commissioned for which Marcos Martin to draw World War II-era Cap and Bucky punching Nazis for thirty pages.  It must be done, I tell you!
