Bravo, Mark Waid. It's been too long since I've read a Spider-Man story where Peter was competent, heroic, capable, showed the benefit of his experience and, above all else, not a douchebag. I can't stress that last part enough, as that had become the loudest point in Spidey's characterization over the last months. Here he was funny but cool and collected, and not above being threatening when he needed to be. My favorite moment, by far, was when he yelled at Shocker, exclaiming that he was "NOT friendly in THIS neighborhood", followed by a stark panel of everyone's facial expressions in reaction. Subtle, understated, and altogether brilliant story-telling. I'm hoping the revolving door of talent on this book is able to give us something this good again soon.
