There are reasons that family units are sometimes unable to survive the loss of a central member. Not only does the family have to grieve the loss of that person, but they must also look at the gaping space that's left in the family dynamic and navigate how to fill that role. People grieve and process at different speeds and levels, so it's incredibly hard to fill roles when you are unsure what role to fill. Winick is able to show all of the members of the Batman/Wayne family in their various stages of processing without being trite or cheesy. This issue does a great job of portraying the emotional states of the people in the Wayne family so that the new motivations of the heroes of the Batman family are better understood.
