I'm the type of guy who doesn't like to just jump in. I like to know all the nuances of the story and whatnot and also I fear feeling the urge to spend a load of cah on backstory. But, in the interest of open-mindedness and just for the hell of it I picked this up. I think Green Lantern looks cool and that warthog on the cover looks cool also. So in I jump.
I'm not sure I know what just happened but I'm certain I enjoyed myself. The art was a bit of a busy mess so that didn't help but Larfleeze is catchy and the GL mythos is obviously grand. I do feel I'm missing out on some things though - controllers? What are those weird mosquito birds? They must be important, they're all over the place. Odds and ends like that.
The fun part is that it was kind of fun. The bad part is that it made want to pick up GL: Rebirth which I did purchase. So I guess my fears of squander were founded but my sense of enjoyment is intact. Though I will resist buying - for the time being - all the trades from Rebirth to now, I will be picking up the Blackest Night #0 on May 1st and go from there.
Alltogether my experience was positive.
