Variant cover by Bernard Chang

This New Krypton event takes an early and surprising step backwards with this issue.

It is hard to argue with any reviews that call this decompressed. There are times where one page worth of story takes two or three to tell. There are also times when nothing of any plot- or character-value happens for an entire page. The storytelling seemed to be in a rush to say, well, not a lot.

The art on this book has not impressed me since the change-up that put Robinson on writing, but this issue was surprisingly sub-par. The figures looked disproporionate and awkward, but wide spreads such as the Daily Planet looked just fine. Panel layouts, however, are just as great as they were during the "Atlas" arc.
