Secret Invasion #8 (OF 8)

When my brother and I read a book or see a movie and we see a thrilling moment, we call it an "Aragorn" moment. (As in "I am Aragorn son of Arathorn" - the revealing of the King in LOTR - geeked out sorry)

Sometimes it is painfully obvious when a movie or comic is reaching for a moment that they believe is thrilling, but its not. You know, the music soars, the spotlght hits, but it's just.....blah. They want an Aragorn moment, but instead they get an Eragon moment.

Secret Invasion was full of those moments. Moments that desperately wanted to be thrilling, but fell short. Indeed moments that Bendis probably thinks are thrilling (and maybe they were three years ago when he wrote it) but are just eh. None more so than the 'Thor' moment, in which Thor tornados Typhoid Janet into space. Just meh.

Plus, all dramatic tension for the entire series was pretty much killed for me when the thought-to-be-dead returned. Drama without cost is dull. One wishes they had learned this from the many resurrections of Jean Grey, which robbed her sacrifice of any real meaning. To my mind Spider-Woman and Invisible Women dead was worth much more to the Marvel Universe than their return ever would have been.

Still nice dialogue and reasonably pretty. And a decent set up to Dark Reign.
