OK, I’ve been holding this in for a while, but I might as well be honest about it. Terry Moore draws really sexy women. This isn’t to say that I get all worked up and frothy when reading SIP, but for some reason, he seems to capture and portray expertly the tiny, imperceptable things about women which make them attractive to me. Now, I know this still sounds purile, but hear me out. He does it with little shapes, and curves and accents, and poses that belong to real women, rather than the traditional women’s magazine style of what beautiful women are. Perhaps I’ve just idealized his work in my head, but the best example is in the back of the book in the letters pages. There’s a drawing of Katchoo in a pair of jeans and a Superman tank that just looks exactly like everything that is beautiful and sexy in a woman. And to be fair, he clearly has a talent for breasts. Let’s be honest here. Still, that’s not what I’m talking about per se.

Have I creeped you out yet? I guess it depends on whether you agree or not, and whether you’ll admit it.
So the story is back on track in current times. I can’t believe this is issue 64. That seems so high up there doesn’t it? After concluding the 3 part David story, we’re thrust into the present, where Katchoo is coping with living a life without Francine. She’s got a big art show, and of course becomes the talk of the town and an instant success. But she’s also in therapy trying to work through her losses. We see Katchoo at possibly her weakest while confronting her feelings, and the therapist basically tells her to get over it and move on. I’m sure for the story’s sake that doesn’t eventually happen, but I guess we’ll have to see.
The great thing about this book is that, even while I know it to be true that Moore has a scheme and plan, at times it feels really well planned out while at the same time, completely unpredictable. It’s this ability to be two things at once which makes this one of the best extensive story telling efforts I’ve ever experienced in any media. And it is utterly unique. Just try to compare this to anything else, comics, books, tv, movies, whatever. There is no substitute.
The trades are always out there for those of you who haven’t jumped on board.
Did you read Strangers in Paradise #64?

I have to say that I am perilously close to droppinf AMAZING SPIDER-MAN as much as I love ol’ Webhead and the art of John Romita Jr. I understand — from reading interviews and hearing him speak in San Diego — that J. Micheal Straczynski really, really wants to write a Dr. Strange comic book. I really do. But that doesn’t mean he’s allowed to turn Spider-Man into Dr. Strange, which it seems he’s trying to do with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. If I was interested in buying a Dr. Strange comic book, I would. But when AMAZING comes out the same week as ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN (which is even having an *off* storyline) the differences are obvious.
Since it was a light week I picked up the first REX MUNDI trade which was EXCELLENT. It was probably more excellent for me because I just read HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL a few months ago from which I’m sure REX MUNDI was birthed (as well as THE DA VINCI CODE). I recommend it highly.
Oh ye of little faith.
I firmly believe that Terry knows what he’s doing and where he’s taking the story. Sure, he’s self-admitted that sometimes the story controls him. But I think he has his framework in place and is enjoying the ride as much as we are.
Don’t forget like 2 or 3 years ago, (around issue #50?) when he flashed forward? And Francine’s daughter was trying to get her book published. Francine and Katchoo were together. Remember how everyone freaked out?
He knows where he’s taking us.

Amazing Spider-Man – yeah I’m right there with you. JMS and this Eziekel crap has got to go.
You didn’t read my words carefully enough. I wasn’t saying it seemed like it was aimless, quite the opposite. I know it’s planned out to the last word, but at the same time he holds on to an unpredictable quality.
It was a compliment. My faith is endless.
ah I see now – this is what happens when I try to post at work.
I dunno if it’s planned to the last word, I bet Terry would say otherwise, but he definitely knows what exit to get off at….
Thanks for coming by Tracy. Hope to see you again.
