Word Balloon Podcast – Steve Niles & Tony Harris, and Stuart Moore

Show Notes

On this episode of Word Balloon, we explore creator-owned comics with Steve Niles and Tony Harris. They’re busy putting together the 2013 series Chin Music for Image Comics, a pastiche of 1930’s gangsters monsters and international intrigue. We take this opportunity to talk about how the current creator-owned movement has more energy than past attempts comparing this era to the black and white 80s explosion and the early 90s Image era. The guys also discuss their attempts to create a comics guild between creators for health insurance pensions and better page rates.

Then Stuart Moore talks about Marvel’s new line of novelizations adapting some of the past decades biggest comic story arcs. They started this summer with Civil War, adapted by Stuart, who will now shift to editing duties over the next group of Marvel novels to follow. Stuart also teases details of his upcoming Web Of Spider Man #129.1 and 129.2 issues featuring the Brooklyn Avengers.

  1. I love your podcast John, and usually don’t mind the exploration of the bigger issues, but the first segment got a little too preachy for me.
