Talksplode #59 – Make Comics with Gabriel Hardman and Jeff Parker

Show Notes

This one has a little bit of everything in it, and covers a lot of ground. You might have to listen twice.

We got Gabriel Hardman and Jeff Parker together to talk about the making of comics. Both creators are talented storytellers, and both have seen both the story and artwork side of a comic book page. Having worked together on multiple projects from Agents of Atlas to a stellar run on Hulk, to an upcoming digital Batman story for DC Comics, they’re very familiar with each other’s style of working.

We talk about everything from their careers in storyboarding to getting into comics, storytelling using the tools available, and incredibly helpful tips on scripting, making your characters shine, your pages work, and working with others on creator owned projects. Plus get Gabe’s #1 and #2 tips to making comics, such as “left to right” and more. We’re also briefly joined by Jeff’s Periscope Studios mates — Colleen Coover, and Steve Lieber — with a couple tips of their own.

If you’re at all interested making comics, from any angle, this is the podcast you need to absorb.
