Pick of the Week Podcast

Pick of the Week #503 – Tokyo Ghost #1

Show Notes

Josh Flanagan is back, and he’s got a bone to pick with Ron Richards and Conor Kilpatrick for their comments on the last show. But then, we just get to talking about comics. And Star Wars. Yes, there’s more Star Wars. It’s not our fault. Then there’s the Hawkeye problem and Josh can’t stop. May the Force be with you. Always.

  1. Really excited about Captain America : White. So excited, in fact, that I went to Bald Eagle Comics and put it on an order (along with about 30 other books) and got a helluva deal thanks to you guys. Since my local comic shop isn’t exactly local (about 45 minutes away now. There’s a shop in town that deals with older books and a very limited number of new issues about a month after they’re released…..), I see me using Bald Eagle’s services pretty regularly. Thanks so much for all that you guys do! Keep up the good work, fellas!

  2. New microphone this week?

I think I am with Josh on the POW.
Increasingly Remender’s writing either stresses me out or bums me out.
Has anyone checked his arms for cutting marks lately?
    #justsaying #yolo

And def New Frontier for Marvel.

    Hawkeye is garbage-garbage-garbage.
It’s worse than just not good.
If it is a feint- then it should make sense in the moment but then later it’s a surprise but you see how they got there in hindsight not because it was written that way a la Lost.

  3. Another awesome show, as always.
It even left me in suspense!
    (about tomorrow’s iFantweet)
(which I am crossing my fingers is Haupt-related…)

I also found a couple of other things which were singularly refreshing about episode #503:

    1) I know you guys don’t like to throw shade at comics you dislike – and I really do respect that – but every now and then, I love hearing it. And actually, it is helpful to anyone who tells stories of any kind;
    and
    2) I know you guys don’t usually discuss comic book price points, but hearing you acknowledge its importance – with regard to Bald Eagle’s deals – was also refreshing.

  4. Who knows what’ll happen with the DC beancounters coming down on the new books, but Prez has a second series of 6 issues slated after #6.

  5. I am devastated that I can’t use my withering wisecracks about Captain America: White anymore. Luckily, no single person in my day-to-day life ever knew what I was talking about in the first place.

  6. Though I agree with your comments on Hawkeye’s story falling flat he doesn’t look like Oliver Queen he looks like Old Clint from Old Man Logan which Lemire has said on Marvel’s podcast that will be the future he’s basically alluding to in Hawkeye.

I’m not very fond of that idea but we’ll see how it goes I suppose.
