iFanboy #175 – San Diego Comic-Con 2010 (Part Two)

Show Notes

There’s too much San Diego Comic-Con to fit into just one episode, so this week, iFanboy continues to bring fans the best of Comic-Con and comics with the best creators we can get in front of a camera. If you’re into Batman, Superman, Thanos, X-Men, G.I. Joe, or a certain 23 year old Canadian named Scott Pilgrim, we’ll bring it to you.

John Cassaday of Planetary, Megamind, and Astonishing X-Men

For the first time ever on iFanboy, we have a quick chat with Eisner winning artist, John Cassaday.

Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning of Thanos Imperative, Nova, and Guardians of the Galaxy

The co-writers of the cosmic Marvel universe, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning talk to us about the state of Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova, and the Thanos Imperative, as well as upcoming projects like Rocket Raccoon and Groot, and an Iron Man/Thor book.

Jimmy Palmiotti and Paul Gulacy of Time Bomb

Jimmy Palmiotti teamed up with artist Paul Gulacy to create Radical’s Time Bomb. They tell us all about the new book, and discussing mowing down fictional Nazis. We also delve into the possibility that Jimmy’s writing partner Justin Gray, might be a fallacy.

Jock of Detective Comics and The Losers

Josh gets a chance to talk with his favorite artist, Jock about his work on The Losers, and the film adaptation, as well as his great run on Detective Comics with Greg Rucka, and his work with Jamie Delano on Hellblazer: Pandemonium. The interview was shot before it was announced that Jock would be the regular artist on Detective Comics going forward.

Rick Remender of Fear Agent, Uncanny X-Force, and The Punisher

It’s hardly a convention show without talking to Rick Remender. This time, he’s got the end of Fear Agent on tap, and then he and Ron go on and on about Uncanny X-Force, Deadpool, Fantomex, and Wolverine.

Mike Costa of G.I. Joe: Cobra and The Transformers

Mike Costa is part of the team behind the stellar G.I. Joe: Cobra book breaking all the rules at IDW. He also helms The Transformers, and writes Transformers: Ironhide. He talks about working on these two venerable institutions of childhood, and making them into comics for big people.

Paul Cornell of Action Comics, Knight and Squire, and Soldier Zero

Paul Cornell has hit DC Comics in a big way, writing Action Comics, focusing on the venerable Lex Luthor, as well as writing the Grant Morrison Batman spin-off, Knight and Squire (Oh, it’s gonna be BRITISH). If that wasn’t enough, he’s working with Stan Lee and BOOM! on the new series, Soldier Zero. It’s a good time for Paul.

Bryan Lee O’Malley of Scott Pilgrim

Even though he got huge, he’s not too huge for us. We talk to Bryan Lee O’Malley just as Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour hits shelves, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World hits theaters. He clues us in to something most people don’t know about Edgar Wright, and invites Ron over for some gaming.

  9. The British are coming!  The British are coming!

Love Cornell’s interview – he has such a grasp on where Luthor’s character is going.  I might actually now get Knight & Squire too.

  10. ‘Oh it’s so going to be British’ might be the funniest comment ever.

  11. Great show, loved the John Cassaday and Rick Remender interviews, Remender’s interview made me rethink my decision to not buy Uncanny X-Force, now I think I just might. Also, Bryan Lee O’Malley interview was awesome in a rather awkward way.

  12. Thanks for this, guys.  Also: Paul Cornell has one of the greatest voices ever.

  13. Ron, why were you pronouncing MegaMind like Megamend?

  14. Another great episode. Thanks for taking the time to speak with DnA – can’t wait for the Groot/Raccoon mini-series. Fingers crossed for the annual awkward Josh/Joe Casey interview in part 3!

  15. Ron said Megaman lol. Megamind and Megaman do have the blue thing going on.

  16. The Joe Casey storyline ended last year with our reconciliation. That’s what Joe told me anyway.
