  1. Man, of all these books I only read Scott Pilgrim.  Do I suck?

  2. IT SHOULD COME TO BLOWS!!!

  3. All Star Superman, Stark’s The Hunter and GI Joe Cobra are the only ones I bought. I guess I’ve got some reading to do… but to be honest I probably wont read the others. Not that I dont trust your opinions, but I guess everyone just likes what they like

  4. Happy that you guys did not spoil the books. And awesome show.

  5. Sad Scott Pilgrim didn’t win, but I haven’t read all of those books so ill shut the hell up.

  6. I’ve only read I Kill Giants, but I have Freddie & Me and 3 Story sitting in my stack.  Might read one of them tonight, what with no comics and all.

I want to read GI Joe Cobra, The Hunter and Asterios Polyp, but purely out of feeling like I should.  None of them sound like things I’m dying to read.

  7. There can only be one..

  8. Also, surprised that the nobody was never BOTM…

  9. I’ve read 8 of the 12 books listed here (or in some cases like Scott Pilgrim and Empowered, read the first volume), and I haven’t watched the show yet, but I’m pulling for I Kill Giants. It has almost universal appeal, is poignant and touching, action-packed, smartly written, and beautifully drawn. To me it signified Joe Kelly’s personal reinvention as a creator, and also showed how much better an indy book can be than any book that came out this year from the big two. It stands out in every way imaginable from the emotional connection it makes to the reader, to the unique art and brilliant cover designs. I love this book and I really hope it’s the BOTY.

  10. Excellent choices, all the way around.  Read all of these, and apart from "This Is A Souvenir", which wasn’t meant for me, anyway, loved them all.

Good show.  And great selection at the end.

  11. Nice discussion here. For me, my favorite book of the year was your runner-up, but this may have more to do with the fact that I’ve read it more recently than your top pick. Still, both of them were great.

And GUS & AND GANG was good. Too bad more people haven’t checked it out.

  12. Agreed on all fronts.

Asterios Polyp is an amazing book in terms of craft and artwork. Story is a bit too blah though for my liken. While Hunter is just an amazing book on all fronts. Great adaptation of a classic story with some of the best work by Cooke period. Cannot wait for the next book to come out, which is next year isn’t it?

  13. Great show, great year, and great selections! I bought 5 of the 12 books of the month last year; thanks to you guys! . The best was a tough one to choose, but I did  go with Asterios Polyp for myself slightly over Parker.

  14. Great show guys. I think I’ve only read half of you books of the month for this year. Good choice on Book of the Year too.

  15. I somehow managed to ignore GIJoe Cobra for most of the year, but it just seemed to be everywhere I looked this month. So this show just closed the deal, going to Amazon now…

  16. IIRC, The Nobody, Asterios Polyp, and Parker all came out in a four-week span, so The Nobody kinda got crowded out.  The Nobody’s my OGN of the year, but in fairness I haven’t yet read Asterios or 3 Story.  I Kill Giants was my favorite collection of the year; absolutely killed me.

  17. Not picking Asterios Polyp because (to horribly paraphrase) it was too clever? Eh..

I can understand not liking the story as much, but it was definitely my pick of the year. I was looking at a few minutes ago, I couldn’t stop myself reading half a dozen chapters!

  18. Yeah, in the end it doesn’t matter, but I thought the reasoning for choosing Parker over Asterios was a bit wack.

  19. The one that I WILL go back and REREAD several times over is All-Star Superman Vol 2 (I did read; Parker, Giants and cobra also)
Looking forward to getting my hands on Asterios Polyp once my library has it available again.

  20. Anyone know when Asterios Polyp will be released as a softcover?  Tried to look it up but came up short.

  21. "… itwasme-"
    priceless.

Sometimes I think the opening jokes shown would transfer well in comic panels.

  22. I bought Gus and His Gang because you guys backed it…

  23. That sounds like a threat…

  24. Damn!!  Drunk shopping while listening to iFanboy!!  I hope that GI Joe: Cobra, 3 Story, and Freddie & Me live up to the reviews (and yes… I did use the Amazon link).
