Comics Podcasting: One Year Later Panel

Show Notes

Last year featured the first gathering of comics podcasting, and it is now, one year later. With some returning faces, and some new faces, the scene was set on the first night of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Moderated by Vito DelSante, the panel featured podcasters Mr. Phil from Indie Spinner Rack, Josh (me) from iFanboy (here), Ian Levenstein from Comic Timing, Jon Towry of Comic Talk Cafe, John Mayo of Comic Book Page, Scott Hinze of Fanboy Radio, and Jimmy Aquino of Comic News Insider. Come get inside their heads a bit.

I just want to thank Vito, the panel members, and the San Diego Comic-Con for another great panel. I hope this is well on its way to becoming a regular feature every year.

  1. This is a fascinating behind-the-curtain listening experience. It sounds like I have a few more podcasts to check out this week!

Is the Scott Hinze who talks about DC and Marvel as evil corporate bastards on this panel the same guy who hosts Fanboy Radio? On the inside, I mean?

  2. that is the same guy, yes.

  3. i still find it funny that Ian, who was late, does a podcast called Comic Timing.

  4. hahahaha

  5. Will the audio from the podcasting 101 panel be available.

  6. I don’t believe anyone recorded that one, unfortunately. It was a good one. I was really hung over from the iFanboy party.

  7. So, I finally got the time to listen to the whole thing. Kept getting halfway through and having to punk out. Anyway, I have a few questions and this goes for all you guys not Josh.

I think Scott touched on this a bit, but I kind of have this foreboding fear of podcasting becoming corporate. I mean if you’re Marvel or DC and you throw a couple of long boxes to some desperate fanboys or fangirls, give em some free con presses and a pithy salary, they might bite.

I don’t share Scott’s enthusiasm that the P.R. guys want the podcasts to be “authentic” because history has proved otherwise (i.e. exclusive creator contracts).

Now obviously Marvel and DC can
