Special Edition – Justice League: Doom

Show Notes

The iFanboy Animation Braintrust — Conor Kilpatrick, Paul Montgomery, Chris Neseman, and Ryan Haupt — has reconvened to discuss the latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie, Justice League: Doom. How does the adaptation of Mark Waid and Howard Porter’s 12 year old “Tower of Babel” storyline from JLA stand up to the other Justice League movies in the series? Opinions are mixed. Plus! The Braintrust talks about the legacy of Dwayne McDuffie, the elevation of Cyborg, and how the animated redesigns trump those in The New 52.

Running Time: 00:40:05

And here’s that episode of The Daly Show that was mentioned during the show. It’s sublimely ridiculous:

  1. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Actually a 3.5 would be wholly inaccurate as it doesn’t reflect my enjoyment of the feature.

The challenge of the adaptation wasn’t the only contributing factor. As I mentioned, the character designs, voice performances and character interaction were well above average, in my opinion.

  2. Really guys!! Batman part of the mindwipe crew in Identity Crisis? That’s some bad memory. He was mindwiped by Zatanna when he beamed into the satellite while they were mindwiping Dr. Light.

  3. i absolutely love the look of Cyborg in this. I wish he looked this way in the New DC.

  4. I may be misremembering this . . . I was so excited about the Morrison JLA that I bought the WIZARD special. In it, Morrison gave some behind-the-scenes stuff and teased some upcoming storylines–the most interesting tidbit being that Batman had contigency plans to take out each and every member of the league. That being Morrison’s idea, not Waid’s. Anybody else remember reading this?

  5. Watched Doom yesterday and was completely bored by it. Nothing clicked for me with this one. Really disappointing.

  6. I was let down too. Only the movies with Batman and Superman are selling well, so we don’t really get to see much of anything new or very interesting anymore.

  7. When Superman gave Batman the Kryptonite bullet at the end, I really wanted Batman to say, “Great, now I have two of these.”
