  1. I waited till right before this issue of S.H.I.E.L.D. came out to buy in, but after reading all 6 this week, I found it pretty tight (though it does take place over lots of time) and fitting well into the Marvel U for the most part. Either way I’m glad I waited a bit and am loving the heck out of it and can’t wait for more! Can’t wait for more Spider-Man and Venom either.

Also, I want to give Diggle a shoutout for DD:Reborn. Issue #2 was great and makes me wish he would be writing DD after the relaunch (or whatever).

And Uncanny X-Force was on issue #5 this week.

  2. I’m glad to hear Young Justice was solid.  I’ve really enjoyed the cartoon.  I may go pick up the issue.

  3. LOL BIG BOA!

  4. I Love Florence & The Machine!

  5. @Josh, does this mean you’re also coming to the Emerald City Comicon? (The podcast didn’t explicitly call out the ifanboys attending.) It’d be cool to meet you in-person. I’ve met Ron, Conor, Gordon, and even Sonia, but it’d be fun to say a quick “Hi” in-person.

Not a biggie either way. Just curious.

Fun show. G.I. Joe is just a tad after my time, but my younger brother was more into it, so you guys remind me of him (in a good way).  I really only remember Cobra Commander and Zar-tan for whatever reason from the series. Do the current comic have Zar-tan?

  6. @powerdad  He’s not. It’s just Chicago for Josh in March.

  7. @SpiderTitan  Me too!

  8. @josh: i read how to be good. it was definately was a book. i did like the guy that thought he got superpowers from taking drugs though

  9. and @conor: Selina’s Big Score is written and drawn by Darwyn Cooke. it’s pretty awesome

  10. @conor  Well….oh…*sniff*…I didn’t want to meet him in the first place!  Emerald City Comicon is that much beter without him!!

    (*boo* *hoo* *hoo* *sniff* *sniff*)

It’s always been better without that show off.  Gives me more quality time with Ron and Conor and Paul…Paul is coming right? Oh god, Paul has to come now!!!  The pain! The pain!

  11. @edward Yeah, I merged SELINA’s BIG SCORE and WHEN IN ROME in my head.

  12. Nice try Josh. We know you hate fun.

  13. Congrats Ron, on the Food and Comics panel.  Love the Taste of Comics podcast.

I really enjoyed the Strange mini series that Mark Waid wrote last year, where Dr. Strange finds a new apprentice.  Still waiting for Casey’s introduction into the Marvel U proper.

  14. Hulk #30 might be making fun of Loeb’s run?

Even if it isn’t true then I’ll buy it!

  15. Big Boa looks like a white Martian Manhunter with a Cylon helmet.
Still love the show, hope to see you guys at Em City CC.

  16. It was fun to hear about the Hulk issue. I vaguely remember seeing the cover (the two hulk faces together), but didn’t realize I should take this image literally. I’ll make sure to pick this issue up when I’m next in my local shop.

  17. No Thunderbolts?  🙁

  18. Just FYI, Hickman has said that he wanted it to be called Shield but for legal reasons they went with the acronym. That’s why it doesn’t really have much to do with Fury and people talk about “Shield” without the acronym.

Also, it has been stated by Marvel that Shield is in main Marvel continuity.

  19. I think I’m going to have to read the trade for SHEILD once it comes out. It’s sounds like a lot of fun, perhaps a bit like The Five Fists of Science…a bit.

  20. @Ron:  The Use of the term “colored” lanterns is very insensitve of you.  They prefer Lanterns of Color.  Please see HR for the diversity and sensitivity training you so clearly deserve.

  21. On Big Boa:  Wasn’t he a response to Rocky Balboa being included in the Order of Battle mini.  It was a collection of OHOTMU listings for the joes.  Rocky was a boxing trainer for the Joes but was retracted in the next issue.

  22. Josh you were totally right about How to Be Good. as soon as you said nick hornby i knew which book you were talking about. only book of his i never finished.

  23. giant robots are more interesting than silly soldiers any day. but that is a funny photo, good point

  24. James from DC?  That’s me!  My apologies for selling short Josh and Conor’s love of LA Confidential.  I look forward to Iceman getting a job as a consultant on a big superhero TV show.

  25. @FabYoni  p.s. Sam from Canberra; you should read the original Steve Ditko Dr. Strange stories, they are pretty great…you could even take hallucinogenic drugs while you read them, that’s what they used to do–i saw that on the BBC so it must be true.

  26. Darwyn Cook/Ed Brubaker run on Catwoman is one of my favourites of all time, you guys need to do a spotlight on it. Maybe as part of a Catwoman/Bane episode in prep for the next Dark Knight?

  27. Florence + The Machine love their music.

  28. @mrlogical I thought that was an awesome comparison.  Unfortunately the only proof of what really happened at the Victory Hotel is a crappy lo-res photoshop.

  29. In case you were wondering they did make a Big Lob toy. (apparently in 2010?!)

  30. Finally had a chance to listen to this week’s POTW show.  Thanks for answering my Catwoman question. Sounds like I should start with Catwoman: Selina’s Big Score, but of course it’s not on Amazon, Instocktrades, or my normal online comic book shop. Figures.  I’ll hit up a local shop at lunch or something.

In the meantime I grabbed Catwoman (Book 1): The Dark End of the Street off Amazon.

  31. @Latimagic  hah! nice.

  32. @r3v have you tried Things From Another World? Midtown?

  33. All Dr. Strange needs is a creator like Hickman, Ennis, Morrison, Abnett/Lanning, that has stories they want to tell and Doc would be fine.  Slammin’ all Doc Strange fans as pot smokers was a harsh toke, dudes, totally bogus.

  34. Coming to this late and with all due respect to all the wonderful content that has been on the podcast in the past, but @mrlogical ‘s email is the best thing I’ve ever heard.

(You know that scene where Bud is stuffing Ron Rifkin’s head in the toilet and RR says “stop him” and Exley smirks and says, “I don’t know how”?  THAT should have been X Men Noir.  Ahem.)

  35. Was it just me, or was there no mention of Brightest Day #20 in this podcast? I was quite surprised, it had an 18% pick of the week ratio and a big ass fight!
