Tonight's episode - The Incident

This is it, it's the two hour season finale! You lucky bastards get to watch it, and Conor has to wait!

Speculations, theories, reactions, live blogs, you know the drill.

Comments

This will mark the first time i've actually watched a finale the day it was aired. I have only watched DVDs before this. Not looking forward to the eventual insatiable hunger I have for answers after the cliffhanger. But very much looking forward to it!

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 08:01 PM

What the heck is this? I thought it was a two hour finale and not a recap show then the finale?

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 08:02 PM

I've got beer and goldfish crackers, i'm ready to go!

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 08:03 PM

Got a big box of 'Mike and Ikes', a bottle of Sunkist, and this blog.

This is gonna be a fun night. Shame conor isnt joining us tonight.

Other then me, gobo, and Kreider; who else is with us to glory!?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 08:06 PM

Hmm, apparently if I want to make more money right now I should sell Avon

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 08:09 PM

There is a two hour finale. AND a recap show.

Same in Canada or?

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 08:15 PM

Watching the recap right now, the canadian networks might only be carrying the actual show but the ABC affiliate I get has all 3 hours

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 08:16 PM

Gotcha. Just making sure everyone's watching at the same time. Sucks on either side of the border when it gets out of synch.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 08:20 PM

I think I'm usually a minute or two fast when I'm watching at the same time.

Also, Wipeout starts in 2 weeks!  I am filled with glee

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 08:22 PM

In the picture Charlie looks like:

'Thank god I'm done this show! I didnt understand a word of it'. :)

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 08:27 PM

-TNC- Surprised you didn't make an X-Men Origins joke. Or were you one of the ones, like me, that enjoyed it?

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 08:29 PM

so excited!  Wont live blog much because im focusing all my attention on the show, but will be back later to talk about the end.  Im expecting a big twist ending and everyone (well mabey not everyone ;) coming back to the present

Posted by TonyStark4prez on 05/13/09 at 08:34 PM

@Kreider: If you replace 'enjoyed' with 'oh my god this is the worst peice of crap ever' then yes :)

At least Dominic had a purpose and a lifespan on this series. I think the character Bolt in the film had like 0mins of backstory but 5mins of a death scene.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 08:35 PM

My favorite thing to do during these talking heads is to watch Damon's face whenever Carlton is talking. He almost always looks seasick. "Why are you talking, Herman Munster? OMG ewww."

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 08:35 PM

You know what I think it's funny?

That JJ Abrams doesnt care about this show anymore. It's all about Star Trek and Fringe. Whenever I see or read an interview of him it's like....5% of the discussion is Lost, the 95% is the things that he actually gives a shit about. At least Lindelof and Carlton still cares.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 08:41 PM

Doesn't Pepsi know that Coke makes a "throwback" version every year for Passover?

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 08:42 PM

Because they're the active producers and head writers on the show. JJ is a director/producer. He has a different relationship with his shows because he doesn't write them.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 08:45 PM

There are different kinds of producers is what i'm saying. I think we're used to the Joss Whedon kind of producer who writes and directs. JJ is the kind of producer/director that people would probably like George Lucas to be. The kind that doesn't also write.  ;)

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 08:48 PM

I thought he wrote more for Felicity and Alias

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 08:50 PM

But it's his baby isnt it? Shouldnt Abrams show a bit of interest in this series?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 08:52 PM

He has creator credits on imdb, but I don't know if he scripted. My assumption is that it's more of an...agnostic creative model. He made light, saw it, thought it was good, and then left.  ;)

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 08:56 PM

@Paul: Just like Jeph Loeb on Heroes? Except no one is embarrassed to be apart of him.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 08:58 PM

Here....we....GO!!!

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 08:59 PM

It's go time baby!  GO TIME!

Hopes for tonight - appearance by Charlie.  Sayid kicking ass.  Jacob reveal

Fears for tonight - a character I like isn't going to make it....

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 08:59 PM

It's not entirely his baby. He left it in good hands (the hands of one of the other parents) and now he's promoting his fledgling projects. No idea what he does behind the scenes.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 08:59 PM

Ooh, also hoping for the Nadia story in full.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 09:00 PM

I think we know who this is...

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:00 PM

Double ooh.  Also hoping for statue reveal.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 09:01 PM

Cast Away starring Tom Hanks..

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:01 PM

Black and white.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:02 PM

So that is Jacob.....who is he....what is he....What is up with the statue!?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:03 PM

Whoa.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:03 PM

Sobek I think?

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:04 PM

So many questions have been put on that wonderfully written scene

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:04 PM

That statue looks more like an alligator head then a bird

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:05 PM

Young kate as a shoplifter?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:06 PM

I would have guessed Anubis but I think you're right about the gator head

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:06 PM

Sobek has a crocodile head. Google him. "has the ability to undo or repair evil or cure ills"  Cure ills? Maybe illnesses?

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:07 PM

The fuck....?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:07 PM

er, or what Paul said

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:07 PM

What is he.....how is he....

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:07 PM

That was....weird, yeah i'm gonna go with weird. But still freakin' awesome!

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:08 PM

It goes to show Kate is not a good person at all

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:08 PM

Happy in Dharmaville was a little known b-side to Margaritaville wasn't it?

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:09 PM

Not sure childhood shoplifting makes Kate a horrible person at her core.

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:09 PM

@gobo: It's the start of her being a bad person

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:10 PM

I think of Kate as a victim of circumstances, not as a bad person.

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:11 PM

2 hours to detonate? Just enough time for the episode

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:11 PM

Wasting away in Dharmaville, searching for my lost hydrogen bomb, some people claim there's a woman to blame....it's Jack's damn fault.

Posted by coleman on 05/13/09 at 09:11 PM

@gobo: She orchestrated the shoplift...yeah just a victim

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:11 PM

It's the circumstances that put her in that position in the first place.

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:12 PM

'You've been staring at me for 10mins'-John

'Sorry your so beautiful'-Richard

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:13 PM

Tangent - Nestor Carbonell (sp?), who plays Richard, is my pick for Khan in a future Star Trek sequel.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:13 PM

@Paul: If that were to happen; I would watch the sequel before the original

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:14 PM

I hope this means Frank is gonna be around longer

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:15 PM

What is it!!??

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:15 PM

"What's in the box!? What's in the booooooox?!?!?!"

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:15 PM

I'd say it's a bag of Skittles....a BIG bag

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:16 PM

I really hope we got some more information about the "sickness" that affected the Frenchmen and these latest crashees

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:16 PM

Grant Morrison is in the box. Readers of Final Crisis decided they'd had enough

Posted by 2frog on 05/13/09 at 09:16 PM

As far as what's in the box I'm going with a hydrogen bomb.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:17 PM

I hate to do this but i came in right when the one guy said 'nice talking to you jacob' and we saw the statue...  What did i miss?!?!?

Posted by magnum240 on 05/13/09 at 09:18 PM

We havent seen Jacob in almost 5 seasons.....and now he's everywhere!

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:20 PM

@magnum - The other guy said "Do you have any idea how much I want to kill you?" as they watched the approach of the black ship.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:20 PM

Yeah you americans are ahead of me this time I think

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:21 PM

Gobo...how far ahead? I don't want anyone to have anything spoiled...that would suck.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:22 PM

@gobo - I guessed Sawyer pretty early in that flashback.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:22 PM

Sawyer just wants to live his life...he's not really whining

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:22 PM

three badasses on the ship

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 09:23 PM

Richard's eyes are creepy in the dark

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:24 PM

Not very much ahead, but TNC said "Jacob is everywhere" before he showed up on my screen, like a minute tops.

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:24 PM

and locke is evil now?

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 09:25 PM

Hilarity ensues....Ben is John's bitch now

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:25 PM

and now locke get's bj

Posted by velvet on 05/13/09 at 09:26 PM

I love that Ben pronouces the H in any wh word....awesome character choice.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:26 PM

Ok, folks. Just in fairness, let's pause a minute or so before commenting on surprises. A slight delay won't hurt the experience.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:26 PM

Slight Delay?....I waited a good 2mins to say that Jacob line....now I gotta wait like 5mins?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:27 PM

Don't do that on my account, but if there are any other people behind chime in!

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:28 PM

'Drag Me to Hell' has very bad CGI....hope thats just early footage.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:28 PM

@Kreider - I've seen Emerson do that in other roles (he was on a rerun of Law and Order CI just yesterday). He plays weird characters all the time though.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:28 PM

I'm getting the feeling that Jacob wants to die....So it's like a contest between him and that other dude to see who gets killed first. That's just a theory.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:29 PM

.....that Grey's commercial just made me laugh out loud horribly.

Posted by coleman on 05/13/09 at 09:29 PM

Ah....so that's how she dies...

Thank you Jacob

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:30 PM

So Jacob never ages either.

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 09:31 PM

TNC - I wasn't addressing you. I just meant going foreword.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:31 PM

This is like turning into a Scooby Doo cartoon.

Trap walls, weird music.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:31 PM

Wait a tic....this is Ben's house/Smoke Monster lair!

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:32 PM

Jack is a horrible shot.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:34 PM

i flipped over to the hockey game for a sec. what happened to sayid's chick? i just saw her lying bloody in the street. (sorry if this was spoilery. i did wait a bit)

Posted by velvet on 05/13/09 at 09:35 PM

Just letting that bag with the nuclear bomb shake back and forth...

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:35 PM

At least Jack tried.

Posted by Slaughter on 05/13/09 at 09:35 PM

@paul THANKS! i guess we don't know 'other guy'?

Posted by magnum240 on 05/13/09 at 09:37 PM

A lot of main characters get shot this season

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:37 PM

@TNC Jacob looked pretty tortured and said 'help me' that one time

Posted by magnum240 on 05/13/09 at 09:38 PM

anyone else think they can sit through terminator movie without wondering throughout the entire film which scene bale went apeshit during?

Posted by velvet on 05/13/09 at 09:39 PM

@magnum - Not yet. No name so far.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:39 PM

Sawyer also paddles a lot in this series.

VINCENT!!

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:40 PM

@velvet - there are clues. It's a quiet, emotional scene with Bryce I believe.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:40 PM

yayyy! that's all I'll say to avoid spoilers!

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:40 PM

Everyone is back!!!! YAY!!!!

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:40 PM

Those guys arent happy obviously lol

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:41 PM

Looking forward to the three season Domestic Adventures of Rose and Bernard OR The Honeymarooners.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:43 PM

This all doesnt seem very pluasible with Rose and Benard

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:43 PM

I think there's a polar bear in the box. A live one.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:44 PM

Aww Juliet....she wants an early retirement.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:44 PM

i wish they DID show us what was in the box

Posted by velvet on 05/13/09 at 09:44 PM

Knew it! They are Other Other's

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:44 PM

Aww man I love Rose and Bernard!

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:45 PM

Now that he's everywhere....I'm getting sick of him

jp

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:46 PM

Is Locke's dead body still in the box?

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:46 PM

is the cabin that rose and Bernard built Jacobs cabin?

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 09:46 PM

"Production designer Kyle, paint me the creepiest painting ever!"

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:47 PM

Well....there goes that...

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:48 PM

@Pete - I don't think so. Doesn't look like the same area. Could be wrong though.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:48 PM

who was the character that said in a previous episode that a war was coming, was it Jack's father? the two sides of the war are going to be the side that Jacob is gathering and maybe a side that is connected to Widmore in some way... I dont know my brain is hurting

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 09:48 PM

So is Jacob really Aaron?

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:49 PM

It definitely looks like John got to Jacob with that knife.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:50 PM

Go Team Jacob!  Mabey they really are the good guys

Posted by TonyStark4prez on 05/13/09 at 09:50 PM

Glad they're bringing back the black and white motif.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:51 PM

Damn....that is sick to see in real time

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:52 PM

Was that a reverse vulcan nerve pinch?

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:52 PM

So Jacob saved Locke's life....cause he looked dead in that shot

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:53 PM

I really hope we see Jacob in season 6 as well, I like the actor

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 09:53 PM

Any Carnivale fans here? Wonder if there are some parallels here.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:54 PM

I hope this season isnt the end of John and Ben talking to each other

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:54 PM

I bet Ben never remembers his and John's anniversaries either...who could forget "their door"? Tsk.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:54 PM

if Locke's body is in the crate, than this is some kind of evil locke,,, that would be kind of cool and kind of lame,,,, I dont know. The guy who is playing Jacob is Rita's ex-husband from Dexter

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 09:55 PM

If Ben has never seen Jacob then how do we explain the confrontation at the cabin?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:55 PM

bwah ha ha!!! pisces!!

Posted by velvet on 05/13/09 at 09:56 PM

Will we be seeing Claire and Christian?

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 09:56 PM

Wow, pretty location.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:57 PM

Great location

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:57 PM

He must have great airline mileage

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:58 PM

for the longest time the 'Lost' creators have been saying that this this is 'The Stand' on an island, Now, with the gathering of various characters by Jacob, I am finally starting to see paralels, besides the characters themselves

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 09:59 PM

I think I liked it more when Jacob was just an enigma. I'm not sure I like the omnipotent Jacob...I prefer an ambigious Jacob.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 09:59 PM

Awkward.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 09:59 PM

Hahaha

So they knew exactely where they would be at that exacte moment

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 09:59 PM

A little convenient, yeah.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 10:00 PM

Well they knew they were going to Swan and that's probably the main road vehicles take.

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 10:01 PM

Do you think they'll really kill Sayid?

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 10:02 PM

@s1lent: Starting to look that way

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:03 PM

I'd believe it.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 10:03 PM

Hmmm....maybe the guy we saw in the very beginning in the black shirt is the guy in the cabin the whole time

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:04 PM

I would probably throw up after a surgery...not get an apollo bar

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:06 PM

Ack storm's a comin. I hope I don't lose my satellite.

Posted by coleman on 05/13/09 at 10:07 PM

Are they gonna take their shirts off and cut trees down?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:08 PM

I love how far Sawyer has come since episode one, he's so great

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 10:10 PM

I had Kate....wait a tic; if he blows the island up he'll never see her again.

That's a weird thing to say

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:10 PM

@next champion I think you are right.... do any of you think that going along with the whole two sides in an upcoming battle thing that Christian Sheppard is on one of the sides and Richard is on the other. Oh and Sayid is dying and Jack is whining about being with Kate

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 10:10 PM

Jesus.....

This is 5 years coming

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:11 PM

I like it how Jack sort of walked off like this was a play or something

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:12 PM

Or, you know, he'd just had the shit kicked out of him.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 10:13 PM

@Paul: Yeah he was stumbling. But looked closely it's like that bush was the prop for getting offstage.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:15 PM

All this time Sayid is bleeding out. And what is Juliet up to now? What's her motive?

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 10:15 PM

Like....are these guys gonna remember each other if this plan works?

Cause like: Jack will meet Kate wont work. Plus Sawyer meeting Kate seems improbable too...

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:17 PM

"Not only do I not want you to be with Kate, I want to disrupt time so that you don't even know she exists!!!"

Awesome.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 10:18 PM

I really really hope this doesn't end up being a Brand New Day thing next season

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 10:18 PM

@gobo: Oh god dont say that....We dont want that! :)

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:19 PM

Jack's been beaten around the last couple of hours

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:19 PM

"if blowing up this island is wrong, i don't wanna be right"

Posted by velvet on 05/13/09 at 10:21 PM

This plan still bugs me a bit. Cause no one really gains anything if this plan works. Everyone had shitty lives before the crash...it's not gonna improve anything

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:22 PM

I wonder how Radzinsky goes from new leader of the Dharma Initative to shooting himself in the head

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:25 PM

@next champion is the voice of reason

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 10:25 PM

So the flight will land and Jacob will be revealed to be Mephisto.

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 10:25 PM

....So that's up with the guitar...

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:26 PM

Not only is this cab going fast....but thank god the driver isnt listening (I guess they think they're crazy)

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:28 PM

He's got like Kool-Aid all over himself

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:29 PM

jack looks like a ghostbuster

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 10:30 PM

My name is Eeyore. I am a torturer.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 10:30 PM

So many people complained about what this statue was....now we get to know

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:33 PM

I'm really hoping that Jacob, the one they're going to see right now, turns out to be Christian...that would be a great twist.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 10:34 PM

After all these epsiodes Locke is still naive about Ben

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 10:34 PM

That's a badass Prius commercial.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 10:35 PM

Does Jacob WANT to be killed?  Is that part of the plan? Will he be resurrected into Locke? Is Christian the Anti-Jacob?

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 10:35 PM

never let Ben have a knife, and then walk behind you

Paul I would almost let you kill me if we both got to find out.

Posted by KreiderDesigns on 05/13/09 at 11:03 PM

We don't know Jacob is actually dead, maybe when he was struck down he became stronger than we could ever imagine

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 11:04 PM

That was the greatest two hours of television that I have ever seen....

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:05 PM

So did the bomb go off or was it a flash or both. And who is anti-Jacob and what does he have to do with Jacob?

Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/13/09 at 11:05 PM

Do you realize what this means?  Boone could be alive!

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:05 PM

Boom goes the hyrdogen bomb!

Posted by coleman on 05/13/09 at 11:06 PM

I think that white flash was just a cop out to show the Lost banner

Cause everything must be fine if the stuff in the present is still there

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:07 PM

This is like the end of season 3. I have absolutely no idea how the next season is going to work. It's a total mystery.  LOVE IT!

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:07 PM

Man I'd so be high fiving Paul right now if I were nearby, I'm so pumped!

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 11:08 PM

I hated this. Worst ending for a season since the hatch light.  Even that had a more impact. I hate that they killed Juliet.  Such a waste. Kate should have been dragged down the hole.  That would have hurt both Jack and Sawyer.

I think that Locke in the room is Widmore.  Who may also be the guy from the beginning. Jacob says to him "So you found your loophole"  Widmore has been looking for that loophole to get back to the Island this whole time.

Posted by PhoenixFactor on 05/13/09 at 11:09 PM

@Gobo - We are together in spirit, my brother. Onward to 2010!

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:09 PM

So we finally got to see Jacob....heh heh. Of course nothing was really answered and he died like a punk. But still, got to see his face.

Now on to the other guy with the black shirt....

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:10 PM

Locke in the room is not widmore. He's the guy from the beginning of the episode, the guy who was an old-timer on the island with jacob

Posted by 2frog on 05/13/09 at 11:10 PM

Bernard and Rose are gonna be PISSED.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:11 PM

So is Island Christian actually Jacob?

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:12 PM

Ok, so, am I just stating the obvious here when I say that the final scene was the biblical Garden of Eden played out between evil Locke, Ben and Jacob?

Let me recap.  Satan the Devil deceives Eve by changing his form into that of a Serpent and planting a suggestion in her mind.  Eve has free will, but chooses to side with the Serpent.  Satan can't beat Yahweh in a straight fight.  The only way he can beat him is to have his followers turn against him.  That's the loophole.  Creatures of free will can make their own decisions.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:12 PM

@Crippler - That makes sense.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:14 PM

Well at least fake Locke will be exposed right away. Cause it's kinda hard to think of an excuse when there's two bodies of the same person

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:14 PM

@Paul I'm wondering if all the island "dead" people have been Black Shirt

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 11:14 PM

Guys. Anti-Jacob MUST be the official nickname for this guy.
All credits to S1lentSlayer. Seriously, if you have a lostpedia account or something....

Posted by tittom on 05/13/09 at 11:14 PM

Oh shit, what if the smoke monster is Black Shirt!?

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 11:15 PM

I know there was a theory floating around for a year or two now about bodies being copied as they cross over onto the island. Maybe not just the dead bodies.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:17 PM

I still feel really bad for Juliet. If the bomb didnt go off....that could be one of the most horrible deaths in the series.

Painful and slow

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:19 PM

I don't know that all of this can be explained through science (even fringe science). I'd like to hear Blair's take on this.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:20 PM

@TNC Worse than being buried alive?

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 11:20 PM

@Paul I couldn't care less as long as it ends up being internally consistent

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 11:21 PM

I feel so horrible for Sawyer.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:21 PM

Pretty sure LOST broke Twitter.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:22 PM

It's broken for me, I'm only getting @replies to me.

Posted by gobo on 05/13/09 at 11:22 PM

@gobo: Well that's a bad way to go too....but either she got blown up right next to the bomb; or just lied there, a broken mess, waiting to die. That sucks.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:24 PM

I keep checking my clock, waiting for 2010. This must be what it felt like to be an apostle waiting for the second coming back in like 37 AD.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:24 PM

Ok, I can see from some of the questions that maybe it wasn't that obvious....

My POV - We are treated to a scene between the force of Good and Evil to start the episode.  It couldn't have been clearer - they were both wearing their respective colours for example.  It followed the biblical story for where the division lies.  I believe the important thing to take out of it is that there is an endgame and that people are free to do as they please until they get there.

See, it's a question of free will and what free moral agents do with it.  As pointed out by the black shirt, normally it means death and decay (i'm paraphrasing).  He would have preferred Jacob do something right then to stop the Black Rock from reaching the island.  No sir says Jacob, they can come if they please.  The possibility exists for progress.

My head is spinning with possibilities now.  Who does the smoke monster kill?  People who reject repentance. (Mr. Ecko's exact last words)  I am now dreaming of season 6 - the redemption of Benjamin Linus.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:25 PM

@TNC - The flash means something happened. Either the bomb went off or there was an incident. Her situation changed, either in instant death or instant transition to whatever is happening next season, episode one.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:26 PM

esau is Jacobs brother in the bible who was very jealous of him. let me ask you this --- who was Jacob referring to when he said "They are coming" did he mean Jack and crew were returning to the present, or did he mean some other evil force?

Posted by AnchorPete on 05/13/09 at 11:27 PM

@Paul: I dont consider the bomb went off at all. Just good editing to fool the masses. But we got 8 months to debate this....*sigh*

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:28 PM

Possible spoilers below:

@gobo I think it's pretty obvious that that is the case.  It is also obvious that the black shirt is Locke atm.

If you think about it, Locke didn't come back alive until they were on the island.  Then, the new Locke lead Ben to the temple.  Ben fell down to the chamber, where Ben met the smoke monster/his daughter.  The smoke monster then procedes to tell him that he must follow all of Locke's orders or else it will kill him.  The smoke monster then turns back into Locke and helps Ben out of the chamber.  Ben is the loophole black shirt was talking about, probably because he was banished... later, he is talked into killing Jacob.

I think I've got it all worked out, however, I'm not sure where the final season is going to go.  Maybe, the Oceanic/Ajira/Others vs. the Smoke Monster + disillusioned followers.

Sorry for my jumbled thoughts and poor grammar, it's late and bedtime.

Posted by ddeevveess on 05/13/09 at 11:31 PM

Ok, i'll stop trying to look for analogies.  The bomb went off.  That could mean ANYTHING.  Is what's done is done?  or can we change the past?  Repentance, in a way, is changing the past.  I have to believe that the event will have some effect.  I can't watch season 6 without Sayid.  He's dead unless that bomb works.

I loved the Jacob scenes tonight.  They were incredibly moving.  They certainly answered most of the questions I've had for the first 4 seasons.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:34 PM

I love it how people think the bomb did go off.

It's gonna be a debate all summer/fall/winter long

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:36 PM

Warms the cockles of my dark and sinister heart to witness the kind of creativity Lost inspires. It's a community experience. An amazing puzzle on a huge scale. I love it.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:39 PM

@TNC - Well, something happened. Historically the whiteout means something.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:41 PM

@Paul: Instead of a fade to black....it was a fade to white. I bet you a graphic novel of your choosing it was just that. :)

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:42 PM

I like AnchorPete's explanation quite a bit too.  Jacob is an oddly-specific name for a character.  Esau would be a perfect counterpoint.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:43 PM

I make no bets where LOST is concerned. Haha. But that whiteout has historical significance.

Something to think about. We saw the crippling of a hand tonight. Which has significance for later events. So it can't be a total erasure. Hmm...

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:46 PM

@Paul: Chicken! :)

Well fading to white does have signifigence to the entire story. Plus again; if the bomb did go off....then none of the scenes with Jacob, Anti Locke, and Ben would occur.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/13/09 at 11:47 PM

Well, this is where you get into multiple time streams and alternate realities.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:48 PM

@TNC - I'm afraid you're missing a big plot point that they kept nailing us over the head with - Whatever happened, happened.

Nothing that we saw all season long ended up contradicting Faraday's assertion that the future could not be changed.  He changed his mind, but he may ultimately have been wrong.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:49 PM

Variables = Free Will?

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/13/09 at 11:50 PM

Exactly.  That was Faradays' change to his original understanding.  We don't know if it was right or not, however.  That might be what season 6 is about.  Fatalism vs. Self-Determinism?  Sartre vs.. um, Skinner?  Are you ultimately responsible for your own actions?

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:54 PM

Reading back through the live blog.  Props to Gobo on calling the Locke body.

I'm wondering now if Rose and Bernard are our Adam and Eve skeletons from season 1.

Posted by Crippler on 05/13/09 at 11:58 PM

That's been the going theory.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/14/09 at 12:48 AM

Here's the problem if the bomb did go off at the end:

There is no point of revealing Locke is dead and who Jacob is (and more importantly him dying). It would all be for naught cause everything would be reset back to the beginning. So what is the point of blowing the audience's mind if we just retcon this bitch like it was OMD? Maybe I'm missing something here in the space/time classes I took in (fictional) college....but it would be pretty clear the last 20mins of this episode would now be a waste of time and nothing happened.

God I hope that isnt the case.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/14/09 at 01:43 AM

Because the bomb happened anyways and was always supposed to happen. It was underground and was reduced in power by being only the detonating mechanism. It didn't do what Faraday wanted it too, it did what it was always meant to do, what Present Eloise knew it would do. The second it went off I bet all those who were in the wrong time got dropped back into there time and they have to stop Locke who now wields the power of the island by taking it from Jacob that's my guess.

The entire series will end as Jack taking out Locke and resuming the role of Jacob, the decision will be made after Kate dies at the hands of Locke and Sawyer kills himself stopping some doomsday thing. Hurley and the rest will go back to L.A. and never talk about the Island again and Jack will sit alone on the Island for all of eternity.

Or something completely different will occur.

Posted by Crucio on 05/14/09 at 02:14 AM

the last time they did a whiteout was when the hatch blew up. One thing that's bugging me is that richard told sun that he saw them all die. pictured were jack, kate, and hurley. the last people he saw were jack and sayid. was he just assuming?

Posted by ShowMeYourWits on 05/14/09 at 03:44 AM

I doubt the Lost producers would create a whiteout as just an editing choice.  It would be a sour way to start the next season with much of the audience saying, "You lied to us!"  BUT this is LOST.  Do you think that the bomb going off will behave exactly as Faraday thought it would?  Next season could start with Juliette walking through a blank white world, meeting Faraday who says, "Oops."

And why would you think that Jacob is dead?  Anubis and Sobek were gods.   Gods come back.  Jacob could have said all sorts of things to Ben to stop him from killing him.  Instead, he almost purposely pissed him off.  I say he comes back as himself or somebody else.  Juliette?

Finally, Widmore and Eloise were/are determined to make things happen a certain way.  Eloise followed orders, even though she knew it would lead to her shooting her son.   Why so determined?   What do they know?  What did they experiece?   Why has there always been a group of outsiders on the island?   What were the teenaged Eloise and Widmore doing on the island in 1954?

There's no easy reset button.

Posted by Tad on 05/14/09 at 03:55 AM

I'd known of Sobek (Egyptology geek), but only in appearance. Reading up on him a little this morning. Really ambiguous. That statue was definitely Sobek though.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/14/09 at 08:40 AM

I think Jacob was arranging his end game, visiting all the Losties to make them part of his commando team.  They will end up managing to defeat Evil.   But what about all the people who died?  Did he visit them too?

I also think Jacob is about free will.  He'll put everyone into position but whether they step up to do what needs doing is their choice.  Ben chose pettiness and murder.  He chose poorly.  I can't wait for the scene when he exits the statue and sees Locke's body.  You think his eyes bug out now?

Posted by Tad on 05/14/09 at 11:37 AM

I'm very curious about the supernatural element going forward. There was talk that everything on the show could be explained by some kind of fringe science, but clearly we've got some currents of magic running through. Crippler is talking about Judaism and we've also got the Egyptian motif. Wonder if it's a mixture of everything or something entirely new. Two enemies stuck on an island, one in black, one in white, both in the shadow of a huge statue of Sobek. I'll be agonizing over this for MONTHS.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/14/09 at 11:51 AM

Question. If, Tad, what you're saying is true, and Jacob was recruiting an army, he didn't visit Juliet, so does what she did disrupt his plans?

Posted by GungaDin on 05/14/09 at 12:11 PM

Woah! Motherfucks to end all motherfucks. I am going to see that again!

Posted by muddi900 on 05/14/09 at 02:39 PM

Wow now that is a season finale....

What if the bomb went off.. and there was a flash?? The bomb would explain why in the swan station they wore suits to leave.. radiation.

Damn that Evil Locke and his trickery.  That is a good theory about the Smoke Monster being all the dead people..And that the monster is that guy "Rival" (jacob's rival)

So much more things, in 1 season to wrap up, I'm really curious to how well it'll be wrapped up, like are we going to know why the missing film strip was in a bible in the arrow station???

Posted by MrPopular on 05/14/09 at 03:06 PM

Here's what's going to happen. The bomb went off, white slash happens, they travel through time and wake up in... the first episode of Lost! Maybe they'll have knowledge of everything that's happend but still be the same persons they were then (i.e. their aren't 2 of them) or they'll be themselves  with season 1 doubles living out season 1. Either way it'd be like one giant last episode where you bring back all the old castmates but spread out over a season. That's a lil theroy I've got anyway, but then again I stopped trying to guess what's happing next with Lost a long time ago.

Posted by Ipitythefool on 05/14/09 at 03:42 PM

Kelvin said Radinsky made those edits for some reason.

My theory is that the Losties at the bomb site are knocked back to the present by the explosion.  They were Jacob's failsafe just in case anything went wrong.  Most of the people in the past were the people "chosen" by Jacob. "They're coming" could be a reference to them.

Posted by MeanOldPig on 05/14/09 at 04:18 PM

@MrPopular: Thats a great theory! Maybe the 'sickness' of the island is slow radiation poisoning? Could explain why the women slowly lost the chance of getting pregnaut.

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/14/09 at 04:34 PM

Well, that was 47 kinds of awesome. I am still processing what I just saw. But it was easily one of the best two hours of LOST I've seen in a while.

My one thought right now is that after the first scene I thought to myself, "Hmm... I wonder if this whole thing is just one big battle between two Earthbound gods?"

Now I need to read all these comments.

AAAAAHHHH!!!!! AAAAHHH! MY BRAIN!!! AAAAAH!!!! MY PATIENCE!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Posted by captbastrd on 05/14/09 at 09:01 PM

@conor: Maybe we could get some New Gods into the fray? It's possible considering how anything can happen now

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/14/09 at 09:05 PM

Oh btw: Jacob is on CSI right now....apparently Laurence Fishburn is gonna be on the island eventually...

Posted by TheNextChampion on 05/14/09 at 09:50 PM

If blowing up the bomb changes the future, and 815 will never crash on the island, then Jack and company won't be around to go back in time to set off the bomb.  So the hatch will be built, and 815 will crash, and Jack will go back in time to set blow up the bomb.  But then the hatch won't be built, and 815 won't crash, and Jack won't go back in time.

Time travel is fun!

Posted by HBD on 05/14/09 at 10:57 PM

What happened in the past always happened. You can't change it, I doubt the writers would break that one tenet they repeated. We percieve time in a linear fashion in order to exist since we are linear beings but all time has always happened and no event can be anything other then what it was, is or will be.

If we could see the future we couldn't change it anymore then if we could get to the past we could not change it. We would end up just being instruments in its implementation. That's of course in the macro world, quantum mechanics acts a bit different in that the same event results in every permutation of some such thing on different folds of quantum reality.

Faraday was broken by Charlottes death, he would've done anything including deluding himself to save her, that's what I think happened. In the end he set up the events that caused her death, by merely attempting to stop them.

Posted by Crucio on 05/15/09 at 03:37 AM

Well Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays Juliet, signed on to do the remake of 'V' for television. So whether she will come back full time probably is unlikely. So that might help the idea that the bomb didnt go off....kinda. Maybe it did went off but she died cause she was in the middle of the blast! But hey there are tons of ghosts on this show, they can cram in one more.

@GreenLantern - if you mean the promo thing for season 6, it's definitely Jack's eye. Not only that, it's the exact same eye scene from the pilot. (you can see the same reflection in the eye)

Doesn't mean anything though :D
