News on 'Green Lantern: First Flight' and 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies'

If you're going to be at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, you can attend the premiere of Green Lantern: First Flight! The screening will be held at the convention on Thursday July 23, 2009. This is similar to what they did last year with Justice League: The New Frontier.
Green Lantern: First Flight finds Hal Jordan recruited to join the Green Lantern Corps and placed under the supervision of respected senior Lantern Sinestro. The earthling soon discovers his mentor is actually the central figure in a secret conspiracy that threatens the philosophies, traditions and hierarchy of the entire Green Lantern Corps. Hal must quickly hone his newfound powers and combat the treasonous Lanterns within the ranks to maintain order in the universe.
Green Lantern: First Flight hits stores July 28, 2009.
Here's how they describe the plot:
In Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, United States President Lex Luthor uses the oncoming trajectory of a Kryptonite asteroid to frame Superman and declare a $1 billion bounty on the heads of the Man of Steel and his “partner in crime,” Batman. Heroes and villains alike launch a relentless pursuit of Superman and Batman, who must unite – and recruit help – to stave off the action-packed onslaught, stop the asteroid, and uncover Luthor’s devious plot to take command of far more than North America.
And in news that will make many, many people happy, Tim Daly returns to voice Superman and Kevin Conroy reprises his role as Batman. And don't forget Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor.

Excited for both of these! Whenever anyone but Conroy voices Batman, I'm immediately turned off for some reason. Just doesn't fit. Probably because even when reading the Batman comics his voice is what I hear in my head.

I got the Batman one, I forget what it is called. I'm definitely rentin both of these though. Green Lantern comics are too complicated for me but maybe this DVD will change things.

My Problem with them doing a GL Story with Hal being a Rookie and then dealing with Sinestro almost Imediatly, is: What's his Motivation?
He's been in this corps for like a week. Less than that if you use Secret Origins as a Basis. Why should Hal care so much about these guys? It's like in Star Wars Episode 4 when Ben died. Why does Luke care so much about him. He's known him for a day.
Now the Superman/Batman Movie looks great so far. It's straigh from the Comics from what I see, but knowing Timm he'll put his own spin to it that makes this story just as good and just a little different. But the best part is that we get the Actual voices of these guys. When I read any Superman comic, or Batman Comic, I can only think of those voices for those characters, and quite frankly, they are the only guys for the job. Well... Daly and Newbern...

The news of Daly coming back to play as Superman might be the best thing I have heard all week.
Definitely looking forward to both of these DVD's, but for some reason I want am stoked for the Superman/Batman story more so. Which is weird since it is a Loeb story....who am I?

I've been getting all of the DC movies on Blu ray and they've been great. Wonder Woman was the one I was least looking forward to, and so far it's my favorite.

Buying both. I've gotten every one of the DC animated movies they've been releasing from Superman/Doomsday on. They practically get stronger with every entry, and are leagues above the Marvel animated movies. I've never read the Superman/Batman story so I don't know what that's about, but the art for that movie is gorgeous.

I liked Wonder Woman and loved New Frontier. But wasn't a fan of Superman/Doomsday. In fact, I completely disliked it. I loved the original story. They should have stuck to it. The fact that Superman had to give his life to take down a monster that demolished the entire Justice League in minutes. With a few of the JLA members arriving just in time to watch him fall in battle.
They focused to much on what happened after the fight and not enough of the epic battle. They even could of made a second film depicting what happened after.

I think the strength of the death of Superman arc was the reprucussions it had on everyone more than the punching each other in the face.

@savinglala: I agree. Also, the challenge is fitting the most important elements of the story into one 70 minute film. They can't just make multiple films, that's not what they are doing over there at Warner Bros.

I Love Conroy as Batman, but his voice seems best suited for the art deco/Noir style of The Animated Series and its subsequent films. I'd be fine with fresh talent. To be fair, Conroy himself probably has some market value as marquee name, so it's porbably a smart buisiness move but still,

I agree with DaveCarr, as much as I love Conroy, I would rather some new people get a shot at Batman. I *loved* Jeremy Sisto's take on Batman in NEW FRONTIER.

Loved Justice League: New Frontier especially the extras. Also thought the extras in Gotham Knight were great. I am really looking forward to Green Lantern. That is a must buy for me.

The fact we're getting the original voices from the animated series is fantastic. That and the art looking simply astonishing is another plus. Definitely can't wait for the Superman/Batman movie
