New Comics for 10/29/08 have no costume ideas

Get to pulling this Wednesday's books, and then let us know what you're looking forward to most, what you're dropping, what others should be buying and anything you're thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!
What are the iFanboys buying? Check it out here - Conor, Ron, Josh and Gordon the Intern.
And what about the rest of the staff? What are they buying? Dave, Jim, Paul, Mike and Sonia.
Lots of extra books coming out this week... lots.
The most exciting one, though? No, it's not Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns #1, it's Hellboy: In the Chapel of Moloch - the first Hellboy comic with interior art by Mike Mignola in years! I'm excited.
This week I have the Pick of the Week!
Bonus Question: What should each of the iFanboys dress up for Halloween as? What are you going as?
Comments
Big week, wide range of interesting stuff...as I try one more time to see if I can get into Hellboy...there's no reason I shouldn't love it, but sometimes I just don't get myself even.
BQ: It's my son's first yr trick-or-treating, so haven't even thought of my own costume - he's going as Spider-man. I think iFanboy should go as The Brothers Three from Thor. And stay in voice character all night.
Posted by PV on 10/27/08 at 05:24 PMCorrection - that should have read The Warriors Three
Posted by PV on 10/27/08 at 05:25 PMSmall week beside two trades. I am so exicited for Hellboy and Joker.
BQ: I am going as Daniel Plainview.
Posted by MeanOldPig on 10/27/08 at 05:28 PMExcited for the Hellboy one shot, FC: Rage of the Red Lanterns, Ultimate Captain America and Spider-Man annual, Superman #681, Proof, Nova, Marvel 1985, and Spider-Man.
BQ: Conor - A DC Character, Josh - Nova, Ron - An X-Man Character. I personally am going as Captain America
Posted by rayclark on 10/27/08 at 05:29 PMOh gosh, I'm excited for every book I'm gettin' this week: Rage of the Red Lanterns, Hellboy, Wolverine: First Class and Superman.
Bonus: I suggest Disney's the Three Caballeros (Josh as Jose the Parrot, Connor as Panchito the orange bird, and Ron as Donald Duck). Me? I'm going as a guy from Top Gun (mostly as an excuse to wear my flight suit my friend just sent me, but also I kinda forgot halloween was coming up...)
Posted by deezer on 10/27/08 at 05:29 PMZooooommmmmbbiiieeee...
Posted by BenBugenig on 10/27/08 at 05:33 PMWhere's Guerillas #2?
Posted by eagle6002 on 10/27/08 at 05:35 PMRage of the Red Lanterns! Geoff Johns month! Weeeeeeeee!!!!
I'm also getting Azzarello's Joker OGN (or is it ORGN?), Superman, and the Knaufs' Cap thing... maybe.
BQ: Conor should be Darkseid. Ron should be Jack Knight. Josh should be Jim Starlin.
Posted by Tork on 10/27/08 at 05:36 PMIf I go as anything, I'm going as Jack Bauer just so it's socially acceptable to wave a gun in people's faces and yell "TELL ME WHO YOU'RE WORKING FOR!!!!" for at least a night.
Posted by Tork on 10/27/08 at 05:38 PMConor you totally need to be Hitman, get a nice suit and fake guns. Josh could go as Constantine if he shaves the beard and Ron can always be the grey gargoyle
Posted by RoiVampire on 10/27/08 at 05:47 PMSince I have to work on Halloween I already did my Halloween thing. I went to one of those crazy showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show. I dressed up as Brad. Its pretty easy glasses and a light blue robe.
Posted by lantern4life on 10/27/08 at 05:48 PMBonus first: Dress as each other. One shaves his head, annother grows sideburns, and the third wears glasses and grows a beard or goatee or something.
Most anticipated this week is the most anticipated book of the quarter for me: Empowered. I think Adam Warren is one of the most underrated/overlooked talents in comics and this is his opus. Getting past the fetish subculture origins of this book may be hard for some but hang in there because it's worth it. Dynamic art and great writing combine to make a truly enjoyable book. I've said it before; I'll say it again: Go Buy This Book.
Posted by RobAbsten on 10/27/08 at 05:48 PM@RobAbsten -- I just read your first sentence as "Dress each other" -- which really brought it to a whole new level.
Posted by daccampo on 10/27/08 at 06:03 PMI totally agree about Empowered. This was supposed to come out in September... I'm very excited about that it's finally here! Character developments and reveals abound in each volume, it's totally worth your $14 (or $7.47 if you got it from DCBS).
Posted by rochvail on 10/27/08 at 06:04 PMPretty good week for me. Rage of the Red Lanterns has had me salivating for weeks! Also glad to finally get an issue of Iron Fist, still contemplating dropping it since the new story hasn't really done enough to sink its teeth into me. The fact that it is so late isn't helping either.
BQ: Connor=Bullseye, Josh=Hawkeye and Ron=Cyclops. Not sure why, those are just the ones that popped into my head. I'm still debating what to be. I might just get some of those nasty tight pants, short sleeve shirt and a tie, put on eyeliner, bunch of wrist bands, strape on my guitar hero guitar and go as a poser pop rock guy. I might insult some people at the party though, so still thinking about it
Posted by drakedangerz on 10/27/08 at 06:08 PMHeh. I can imagine Ron going for Halloween as "Batroc the Lee-PAIR!"
Posted by Tork on 10/27/08 at 06:13 PMRufio Rufio Ru Fi O
Bangarang!
Rage of the Red Lanterns, Superman, and the Hellboy one-shot top my list this week. I'm also looking forward to the Joker HC and LoEG: Black Dossier TPB when I can afford them.
BQ: No costume for me this year (I am, what you call, a party pooper...). As for the iFanboys, well, Conor could go as middle managment Red Skull, Josh could go as fighter pilot Hal Jordan (and be mistaken for Tom Cruise in Top Gun all night), and Ron could go as a demented Morrissey.
Posted by Neb on 10/27/08 at 06:19 PMI am really looking forward to Rage of the Red Lanterns, Superman, and the Amazing Spider-Man Annual. The identity of Jackpot really has me intrigued.
Posted by xebix on 10/27/08 at 06:20 PM
Ummmm.... Conor, you do realize that A GARTH ENNIS WAR BOOK IS COMING OUT THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone better buy Garth Ennis' Night Witches! Because I want him to get to keep writing war books!
Posted by SixGun on 10/27/08 at 06:48 PMI do realize, yes, but a Mignola drawn HELLBOY is more exciting.
Posted by conor on 10/27/08 at 06:48 PMUm, I'll be getting Amazing Spider-Man, the two Spidey annuals, the two Thors, Supes, Teen Titans, Wolverine, X-Force (hey, don't get all judgy!) and the X-Men First Class special. Oh, and Rage of the Red Lanterns of course, can't wait!
BQ: Josh to dye his hair blond again and dress up as Green Arrow, Conor as crazy technicolour RIP Batman and Ron drag up as Spider-Girl ;o)
Posted by Garrett on 10/27/08 at 06:52 PMlantern4life: where are they still showing Rocky Horror in town?
I used to work at the theater that showed it every Saturday night back in the early nineties, and I always have a wave of nostalgia for drunk men in teddies around this time of year.
Have I said too much?
Posted by Jimski on 10/27/08 at 07:01 PMTop 3
Final crisis Rage of the red lanterns
Amazing spidy
Ultimate spidy
Conor as Batman Ron as some x person Josh as GL i am thinking Guy (not for any reason thats just what comes to mind) and Gordon as Zorro i am won't be anything for Halloween because i'll be home because i have no life.
Posted by siratomofbones on 10/27/08 at 07:08 PM
The books I'm most excited about this week are: Hellboy One-Shot, Rage of the Red Lanterns, Superman, Astounding Wolf-Man, ASM, ASM Annual, Immortal Iron Fist, Ultimate Captain America Annual, Ultimate Spider-Man Annual, X-Men First Class Giant-Size Special, and Project Superpowers.
I think the iFanboys should dress as The Three Stooges - Conor as Curly, Josh as Moe, and Ron as Curly.
I no longer dress up for Halloween. :(
Posted by iSteve on 10/27/08 at 07:16 PMSo, I didn't pick up my comics last week (work and etc.) and now I'll have a stack that's over 20 books, including a GN and a trade or two AND .. EVERYTHING JUST WENT UP BY 20% because Bay Street Comp. Index took a dive and pulled the Loonie down with it. Goddamn it. I usually flirt with the $100 mark most months.. sometimes over, sometimes under. Adding an extra $20 is not cool. Not cool at all.
BQ - My little guy's first Halloween. He's going as a Sock Monkey during the day with mom and the Flash at night with me. Maybe I should go as Flash and he could be Kid Flash from back before they had seperate costumes? (yes, that's right, because the people we go to visit will care about something like that)
Posted by Crippler on 10/27/08 at 07:33 PM
Small week, just FC Red Lanterns, Spike #4, Checkmate #31 and the Screamland TP. Easily most excited for Lanterns.
BQ: The iFanboys should dress as each other; Ron be Conor, Conor as Josh etc. I'm going as Gary Oldman Dracula (the top hat and glasses version, not the 90 year old bumpy-headed croney)
Posted by Eyun on 10/27/08 at 07:46 PMBQ: Why not just wear the costumes from your college days?
(See article: http://ifanboy.com/content/articles/The_iFanboy_Letter_Column_-_10_24_08_)
I am sure they still fit. Right Conor?
Posted by stuclach on 10/27/08 at 08:14 PMMy Batman t-shirt still does.
Posted by conor on 10/27/08 at 08:22 PMRage of the Reds and Ultimate Spidey
Spary some white streaks in my hair and wear my Fantastic Four t-shirt, its uncanny how much I look like Reed Richards
Posted by Simmons on 10/27/08 at 08:26 PM@conor - Sport that Batman shirt on the next Video Podcast and I will buy a trade through your online store. Guaranteed. (How much would you net on that? $1?)
Posted by stuclach on 10/27/08 at 08:29 PMI try not to wear overtly comic book t-shirts on the comic book show. It's a bit on the nose.
Posted by conor on 10/27/08 at 08:31 PMBut I did wear it on this one.
Posted by conor on 10/27/08 at 08:34 PMWear a nice button down dress shirt a la Clark Kent and then rip that bitch open at the end of the show a la Superman. (Has Bruce Wayne/Batman ever pulled that move?)
Posted by stuclach on 10/27/08 at 08:35 PMJust watched the clip. It still fits nicely. I wonder if Ron can still wear that Flash shirt as comfortably as you wear yours?
I still think you should wear it for Halloween this year. It would work as a nice counter balance for all the guys who over do it with the store bought "The Dark Knight" Batman costumes with the ultra padded muscles.
And if you do what I suggested above I will buy two books at your store. If you can get Ron to wear his Flash shirt and Josh to pull on that Green Lantern shirt I will make it three.
Posted by stuclach on 10/27/08 at 08:46 PMDoes this work? Can iFanboy episodes be guest-directed for TPB sales?
I can see it now. Crippler will be directing tonight's episode in the style of Rashomon...
Posted by Crippler on 10/27/08 at 08:54 PMRage of the Red Lanterns, The Boys, Wolfman (really give this one a try, people), Ultimate annuals, Hellboy, new Ennis war comic, PROOF!!!! - a lot of great stuff this week. Also going to add the Joker GN to my list, but I'll have to do some extra chores around the house in order to squeeze the blood from the stone to get it.
Also, if you've never read it, I highly recommend Kill Your Boyfriend - one of Grant Morrison's unsung works.
BQ: You should dress as Chris, Tom and Sal from Around Comics.
Posted by Dan on 10/27/08 at 09:06 PMI just had this weird meta-mashup in my head, trying to combine this week's comics and Halloween. I had a vision of John Belushi playing Bluto from Animal House chanting "No-va! No-va! No-va!" as though he were trying to inspire a Nova rather than a toga party.
I feel wacked out. Still - Animal house costumes might be great. Conor could play Niedermayer (requires a riding crop and miltary uniform), Josh would make a cool Hooper (just get an early '60's plaid sportjacket and skinny tie), and Ron would be a great Bluto (with a fat suit and a "College" sweatshirt).
Posted by coltrane68 on 10/27/08 at 09:41 PMSuperman, Secret Invasion Thor, Iron Fist, and both First Class book. I'm happy about all of these.
BQ: I have no thoughts for Conor or Ron, sorry, but Josh should dress up as Hawkeye. Or Green Arrow if he can grow the beard back in time.
Posted by ohcaroline on 10/27/08 at 10:22 PMBig week on All's Hallow Eve....or Halloween for the purists....
Hellboy: In the Chapel of Moloch (confusing name for a one-shot but Mignola on art? Hells yes! Please let me LCS have this!)
Incredible Herc #122 (Last issue was my POTW, wonder how many more will still ignore this series?)
Joker HC (I have it on my pull list but honestly...I dont have the money for this. Damn economy!!)
Nova #18 (Still one of the best Marvel titles out there, better then Daredevil and Uncanny X-Men combined)
Superman #681 (Part 2 of 'New Krypton' and even if it is Robinson issue...who I dont see why he's such a special writer...My gut still tells me this is going to be a great storyline.)
USM Annual #3 (USM has been very boring, but this is an annual! and it's about sex! Win Win!)
BQ: Dressing up as Hulk for Halloween....yes I still have work, what about it?
Posted by TheNextChampion on 10/27/08 at 10:56 PMWow. There are a lot of annuals and specials out this week!!! My poor pocketbook!
BQ: Conor, Josh, and Ron should go as Sam, Twitch, and Spahwn. I'm going as a boring old dad this year. I wonder whatever happened to my Iron Fist costume?
Posted by patio on 10/27/08 at 10:59 PMI'm very excited for the new Hammerhead arc on Amazing Spider-Man and for this Jackpot stuff to hopefully finally pay off in the Annual. I'm also excited for the second issue of Kick Drum Comix.
But most of all, I am excited for… Spawn. I haven't bought it in right around 100 issues, but I can't wait for McFarlane's return and Portacio's art looks great in the previews.
Plus Thor is coming out, good stuff all around.
Posted by cormano on 10/28/08 at 12:13 AMThor, Nova, USM Annual, Red Lanterns, ASM Annual... I've decided to go hardcovers for regular issue ASM.
BQ: Boots the Monkey to my daugheter's Dora the Explorer.
Posted by RaceMcCloud on 10/28/08 at 01:59 AM@MeanOldPig: thats a great costume idea. you should walk around with a bowling pin and a very long straw for milkshake drinking :)
Posted by WinTheWonderboy on 10/28/08 at 02:22 AMI'm most looking forward to reading Superman(new krypton pt2 yay!), wolf-man, FC: rage of the red lanterns, superman/batman and the joker HC(if i can afford it)
Bonus Question: I'm working but they say i can dress up. so, I'm thinking either an extremely cheap looking homemade Robin costume or just wearing some David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust Aladdin Sane lighting bolt make-up.
Posted by WinTheWonderboy on 10/28/08 at 02:56 AMSuperman #681, Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns are what I'm most excited. (I just had to pinch myslef to make sure I was'nt dreaming, I just said I'm excited for Superman)
Jumping onto a bunch of titles this week, Savage Dragon #139, Proof #13, and Spawn #185 because I can't resist reading Spawn written by McFarlane. And Astounding Wolf-Man #9 because I dig Kirkman's work.
I'm going to start reading Northlanders in issues starting with #11. If I don't like it in that format, I will go back to trades.
And Hellboy drawn by Mignola is something I can't pass up.
BQ: I would'nt know what to recommend, I don't even have an idea for myself. I may do what I did a few years ago and wear a schoolboy outfit and go as Angus Young from AC/DC.
Posted by Kory on 10/28/08 at 03:45 AMShaun from Shaun Of The Dead. I'm getting a cricket bat today!
Posted by BoneMachine on 10/28/08 at 07:01 AMI'm only on TPB #3 of Hellboy, but I can't pass up this one shot. Otherwise, nothing looks that mouth-wattering to me.
Haven't done halloween in years... went as Capt. Lou Albano last time.
Posted by OddsBodkins on 10/28/08 at 08:19 AMMost looking forward to the ASM Annual.
BQ: I'm going as an injured guy cause my beautiful girlfriend is going in a skimpy nurse outfit. I'm not usually into couple's costumes but it really wasn't that hard to talk me into this one.
Posted by cman12 on 10/28/08 at 08:49 AMVery excited for Hellboy, Solomon Kane, and USM. Also checking out Token, which I believe is the last or one of the last Minx books. I liked the preview in the back of Janes in Love.
Posted by PaulMontgomery on 10/28/08 at 08:51 AMNo singles for me this week unless I decide to get Hellboy. I'm getting:
Joker HC
Doktor Sleepless HC
going as Clark Kent (suit w/superman tshirt under it) and the lady is going as Lois. My friend and his gf are doing joker/harley, and two of our other friends are riddler/penguin
should be fun at the bars
Posted by broderboy on 10/28/08 at 09:17 AMBQ: Go as a piece of kryptonite, the joker, and magneto.
Posted by chlop on 10/28/08 at 09:52 AMMignola on Hellboy does make for an exciting, impending apocalypse. I'm also optimistic about the Astonishing mini, if only to see Ellis's story with art that doesn't make me want to shake a baby (on that front, what the hell is happening to the art in X-Factor?).
BQ: Conor as mulleted Longshot, Josh as Skrullectra, and Ron as Invincible.
Posted by akamuu on 10/28/08 at 10:20 AM
Go as The Warriors Three like PV said! That's a GREAT idea!
Posted by cav on 10/28/08 at 11:03 AMThe Warriors Three IS awesome.
Posted by josh on 10/28/08 at 11:28 AMHmm, light week for me. I'm most excited for No Hero #2 I think, and hoping for a better Trinity, disapointed with last weeks.
BQ: Go as BSG characters! Conor as Colonel Tighe, Ron as Admiral Adama and Josh as...uhhh...Balthar?
Posted by CAM on 10/28/08 at 12:54 PMLeague of ExtraOrdinary Gentlemen characters.
One without an ear, one with a white face and one with a dress or a turban or a gun.
One sickly looking, one thin and bearded, and if you want more diversity maybe the woman from that school but you'll need huge fake breasts and backside.
Or jack the ripper, the invisible man (that would probably be weirder than Vendetta masks if you don't talk and everything else is covered but the face which is ghostly white), and someone naked (300) or as Alan Moore:

Astonishing X-Men Ghost Boxes #1 (of 2)
Astounding Wolf-Man #9
Avengers Initiative #18
Final Crisis Rage of The Red Lanterns #1
Secret Invasion X-Men #3(of4)
Wolverine Origins #29
X-Force #8
My first DC book in months!
BQ: The iFanboys should go as the guys from Trainspotting! Ron and Renton, Conor as Spud, and Josh as Sickboy. :) I'm not going as anything, though; I gotta work and I'm not really prepared for Halloween.
Azzarello's JOKER! Looks like Luthor, man of steel; the art gives a realistic feel to the costumes and realizes the villains in the real world. I also heard that the design of the Joker (oral scars) preceeded the design of the joker in the dark knight.
Agree with the other hi pulls, but this I have been waiting for a long time. Story and the art. Azzarello usually does supes and bats well (the books centering on the villains, NOT FOR TOMORROW.)
Posted by UncleBob on 10/29/08 at 04:17 AMMost excited to get my hands on Proof#13, Rage of the Red Lanterns#1, Nova#18, and Avengers Initiative#18. Unfortunately this may be the week that Teen Titans and JLA go into the drop book bin unless this weeks issues can make my black heart care again
BQ: CYCLOPS! Couple of years ago my wife got me a lazer level, which came with red goggle that can be used to see the beam mor clearly. Immediately I knew one day it would be the basis of a Cyclops costume. Unfortunately I don't know how many people outside of comics will recognize the outfit. That and my wife just laughed when I tried on the costume for her. I can't understand why she doesn't find Scott Summers sexy.
Posted by BizDaddy on 10/29/08 at 11:25 AMMost excited - the New Warriors run by Dan Slott that has been anounced, and Comic Book Comics #3 whenever that gets published (I'll buy #2 in the next few days...)
Posted by chlop on 10/30/08 at 02:54 PMAs respectfully as I can, I will suggest Conor dresses up as The Watcher. With his knowledge of the Marvel Universe, he can tell people where a story might be headed and what possible fates should be avoided. Think how much better the film Rise of the Silver Surfer would have been with Conor-Watcher in it!
No idea for Josh's costume, but Ron should definitely be the Hulk, and then he can punch Conor-Watcher if the God needs to be taken down.
I guess Josh can be Yorick Brown. They're both awful witty.
Posted by PymSlap on 10/31/08 at 08:10 PM

I am going as Rorschach this year. I'm super excited. Even though only about 3 people will actually recognise it. HUZZAYS.
