    This took forever to come out in trade.  Why does Vertigo insist on releasing all things Neil Gaiman in October?  I’m looking forward to this, but am sad we didn’t get the Sandman prequel that Gaiman was going to write if him and Vertigo could have come to a consensus on money.

    It came out somewhere a few months ago, maybe Lying in the Gutters.  Basically Gaiman was going to tell the story of where Morpheus was before he was captured at the beginning of Sandman #1.  What happened was Vertigo offered him basically his standard rate from 1988 I believe, plus, they of course own the rights.  He asked for more money, they said no, so he didn’t do it because he felt that he could write a book instead, retain full rights and get more money from it.  So it didn’t happen.  Maybe for the 25th anniversary.  Let’s hope.

    This was enjoyable. Russell always does a great job of adapting Gaiman prose. But man was that price a little steep for just four issues and considering Gaiman didn’t actually do any new writing for this, so I assume Vertigo didn’t need to pay him huge coin.
