  1. REALLY excited about this one. I’m an old Sgt. Rock fan and would love to see this thing be good and get some traction. Not much buzz about it plus I’m surprised at the $3.99 price compared to some of the bigger titles starting at $2.99

  2. I have said before I have been looking for books that are not so much superhero but still have a little bit in there. This book will be just that. I am shocked that 3.99 is the price what happend to “we are staying at 2.99 for the customers.” ?

    • I’m thinking there’s a backup feature? So far, DC has been really good about making sure any $3.99 books are larger than 20 story pages, so I don’t think they’d drop the ball with this book. Justice League was $3.99 but it was longer than 20 pages. All Star Western is also $3.99 but will contain backup features.

Has anyone seen ANY preview art for this book? I want to buy this book, but without any kind of preview art, this is going to be an in-store decision.

    • Ken NO!!!! It’s driving me crazy. I’ve looked everywhere for some preview art but haven’t found anything!

  3. It’s 3.99 because it’s more than 20 pages. It’ll be like 28 or 30 or something. A couple other of the new number 1s are this way as well.

There are no 3.99 22 page comics from DC (though JL being 24 pages plus 4 pages of sketches for 3.99 pissed me off).

  4. Is this a new series or a reboot of an old one? I never heard of this before but it’s part of my pull list because I’m picking up all 52.

  5. I really want to see preview pages for this. I love the idea of the book, and the covers are great but the only art I can find of Derenick’s is a bunch of cheese cake pinups which (given the promised content of this book) make this a really difficult sell.

  6. Thanks Rusty. I’ll give it a shot.

  7. Thanks Rusty! I like the look of it. Clean classic style.

  8. This is a wait-and-hear-the-reviews book for me.

  9. I’m really looking forward to seeing where this goes 🙂

  10. I had no interest in this book. Then I read the blurb of what it was about. Now I may read it first of everything I buy this week.

  11. Very solid issue. I love good war comics. The back-up story was kind of an easy premise but I’m interested in seeing where it goes and if it’s a true story. It’s no Animal Man but it met my expectations and I’ll be buying the next few issues.

  12. If not for animal man this would have been the best book this week… Great job.

  13. Picked this up at a total impulse, wasn’t bad I think I’m gonna stick with this for a while.

  14. I’m half done – I read the first story, will read the Seals one tomorrow. So far, so good, this looks like a keeper. I’ve been wanting a good military-based book since Stormwatch: Team Achilles was canceled, and this may be it. It has that feel so far. I’ll likely write a review as well.

  15. This was a huge surprise for me. Didn’t really think anything of this but absolutely loved it.

  16. Any guesses on who the meta is?

  17. Both stories in this book had the same problem for me: the characters were indistinguishable. Despite using their names repeatedly, they could have killed every character by the end of the first issue because they were not developed at all. That even includes the scenes at the beginning with Rock, as I didn’t know anything about him when it was over except that was was respected by others.

Looks like the first clear “drop” out of the 8 I tried this week.

  18. I was so bored with this, I could barely finish it. Then I did, and there was another backup story. Ugh.

  19. I actually really liked this, it was definitely the pleasant surprise for me this week. I thought the set up was pretty interesting and I like that it’s going to involve/intertwine with the superhero universe. Very cool.

  20. Never purchased a ‘war/military’ comic before and this was just included because my comic shop ran a ‘all 52 for $52’ promotion…awesome promotion by the way…I have only bought trades up to this point but after this I will probably be at about 20-25 comics/month. But back to this book, I loved the link to old Sgt Rock and have this book on my bubble to continue.

  21. I thought it was good!! I did not think I could get into this however; it really kinda brought me in. Sgt. Rock is a character I have read once maybe twice in my life and was always a good story. So looks like I will stick in here for issue #2.

    Just sayin’,

    K
