Will Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain and More Make their Adorable Return in Dustin Nguyen’s LI’L GOTHAM?

Some familiar faces are about to make their long awaited return to DC Comics. Sort of.

DC announced today that Dustin Nguyen is drawing and co-authoring with Derek Fridolfs a digital first series called Li’l Gotham. Adopting the style of his fan favorite watercolor covers featuring ‘chibi’ versions of heroes and villains, the serial will celebrate a new holiday each month. It all starts tomorrow with a Halloween edition. From the looks of things, we can also expect installments dedicated to Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.

Of course, you’ll also note the presence of some old friends like Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain. Judging by their presence and some pre-52 color schemes (Nightwing in black and blue instead of his current black and red duds; Babs likely seated in her wheelchair; Harley in her demure clown costume, etc) this project has likely been in the works for a while. Whether or not this promo image accurately reflects the content of the finished series remains to be seen. Either way, we’re very excited to see a full book of Nguyen’s whimsical representations of Gotham’s finest and foulest (and fowlest, come to think of it). And they don’t just make for great covers, as we saw in a 2010 issue of Batgirl written by Bryan Q. Miller.

No word whether the Calendar Man is behind all this either. Anyways, mark yours!

  3. Yeah, I will be getting it when it goes to print as well. I still love that flashback in Batgirl from a couple of years ago. That whole Stephanie Brown Batgirl series was a good time, lots of laughs.

  4. I miss Steph.

Absolutely love Nguyen’s work and will definitely be picking these up.

  5. I’m very much looking forward to this.

  6. His Batman looks like a smaller TDK Returns Batman.

  7. A-Babies vs X-Babies now Lil’l Gotham? Whatis going on at Marvel and DC?

  8. Awesome! Definitely getting this!

  9. Why does this have to be a digital release? I’m sure it’ll come to print eventually but I’d totally buy this if DC printed this sucker.

Also, I guess this was what Nguyen told me about at NYCC when he said he wasn’t done with Batman yet.

  10. Anyone else notice Li’l Klarion? And look at Li’l Bane! Adorable!

I like that Nguyen seems to be including villains from he and Dini’s awesome Detective run. But how could you not have a Li’l Calendar Man in a story about holidays?

  11. Man I miss Stephanie Brown, what a great series. And side note, who thought it was a good idea to mess with Nightwing’s color scheme?
