WANT! – 03/30/2010

They say the best things in life are free. We're not sure who's responsible for that. Probably Walt Whitman. He was lying. He totally would've wanted one of those hangy things that can grow tomatoes without dirt. Or a Kindle.

Here's some of the things we'd like to get our grubby little mitts on:

Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down. Until now. DC Direct's Blammoids don't just knock Weebles down, they obliterate them, then enslave the inhabitants of their wobbling planet. The first wave of Blammoids–Batman, Joker, Aquaman, Hal Jordan, Sinestro, and Firestorm–is already turning up in comic shops and Borders book stores, but they're so small you might miss them on first glance. The bizarre design sensibility makes them worth the wild goose chase though. We're particularly fond of the Sinestro design with its flared out Dali mustache. He's purple as a prune and looks as if he could use one. Spotted in the wild for around $13.

As far as we can tell, only one of these exists, but we have agents searching every cantina and moisture vaporator farm on this desolate rock to find one for our armory. An artist named Brian Rood (who we hope traverses the clouds in a grim dirigible called The Rood Awakening) forged this incredible steampunk Stormtrooper helmet for a charity auction. The original design was pretty steampunk as it was, but adding some grommets and a rusty finish adds another dimension to this iconic visage. We're already planning our own backyard steampunk Star Wars short film "Gears of the Mind's Eye." Look for it on Youtube in 2012. Priceless.

The entire iFanboy staff has to share a single powder room, but there are a few things that brighten up our lavatory experience. The European style bidet, the Star Trek: The Next Generation pinball machine, and this tubular Aquaman statue. Arthur Curry is back and you're either riding the wave or you've got your foot caught in a lobster trap. Either way, Aquaman holds out a hand to save you. "Do you trust me?" he whispers. "Come with me if you want to swim." $150.

Remember, iFanbase. Christmas is only nine months away….

    European style bidet….

I love those steampunk Stormtrooper helmets.  Awesome.  I saw a group of guys in EXCELLENT steampunk Ghostbusters costumes at Dragon*Con last year that really impressed me, but the helmets take the cake.

I WANT the Ron Mueck Gollum statue I keep seeing in my nightmares to be real.

The Hal/Sinestro Blammoids are my favorites of the bunch. I had been wondering when we would start seeing them in the stores.

  3. I love the Sinestro Blammoid. He looks so cute with his itty-bitty desire for universal conquest.

  4. Paul Montgomery PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Yep, definitely saw the Blammoids at a Borders this weekend. I was surprised at how small they are. I’d been expecting a Mighty Muggs scale, but definitely closer to a Weeble. Easier to collect though. Gonna try and grab a Sinestro this week. Upcoming waves feature a Wildcat and Brainiac, the other top picks for me.

Can I just say? I’m not over-the-moon with WANT for any of these products, but I just love reading Paul’s copy. Walt Whitman was lying, indeed. Well-played, sir.

There’s no way Walt Whitman would have wasted his time with little toys like these. He had higher aspirations and more important things to do. Or maybe I’m wrong; and in that case, I’m glad he didn’t live to have as many silly distractions in life as we do.

But that Aquaman statue is a totally awesome work of art, and I’d possibly trade my copy of Leaves of Grass for it! :-O

    Dick Whitman > Walt Whitman

  8. daccampo daccampo says:

Now I’m picturing an iFanboy style vs. battle.

     Walt’s powers:

    - Barbaric Yawp

    - Contains Multitudes

    - That beard

    Dick "Don Draper" Whitman’s powers:

    - Smoking

    -  ability to reinvent self

    - doesn’t have contract

  9. Megnolia Megnolia says:

    Well done, David. Well done.

  10. Mangaman Mangaman says:

    Why is aquaman so awesome?

  11. DarthDuck DarthDuck says:

I hadn’t seem the steam punk Stormtrooper before.  It’s my new favorite althought the Creature from the Black Lagoon one is pretty still pretty sweet…

  12. deezer deezer says:

Ooo… those Blammoids are pretty darn sweet, might have to try to find myself some o’ those.

As for other stuff… they’re making a heroclix Blackest Night set with the 6 "New Guardians" (Wonder Woman, Flash, Scarecrow, etc.), plus Hal Jordan that I may pick up, despite my dislike of Heroclix in general

  13. Dan Dan says:

LOVE that Stormtrooper helmet – hopefully someone at Lucas scoops this guy up and the mass produce it and I can get my very own copy for $5 at a con five years from now when the Star Wars craze has ground to a 1989-type hault.

  14. Neb Neb says:

That Aquaman statue is pretty awesome.  My LCS had one briefly and it was mighty purty.

  15. Crippler Crippler says:

hahhahah  "Come with me if you want to swim."  aaah..  that was funny.
Also, I think adding "European" to the front of Bidet is superfluous.  Bidet describes enough all on its own.

  16. Noto Noto says:

You guys should do a matching DO NOT WANT! column to go along with this.

  17. DAMN! I want that Aquaman statue.

  18. Bryce31 Bryce31 says:

I really don’t see the appeal of the Blammoids, but to each his own I guess.

That auqaman statue is pretty nice, I also find myself wanting that New Power Girl Statue that came out recently.

  19. GleepGlop GleepGlop says:

Practically everyplace I’ve ever been with pinball has the Next Generation pinball machine. I’m generally pretty terrible at pinball, but I do love that machine.

  20. Pompster Pompster says:

Now if that Aquaman statues’s top came off and bubble bath came out, then I’d get one.

  21. Timmy Wood TimmyWood (@TimmyWood) says:

Are these Blammoids to compete with the Marvel Mighty Muggs, except smaller?

  22. Paul Montgomery PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

    For my affections? Sure.
