Vertigo Goes Anthology with Strange Adventures in May

How would you feel about a title from Vertigo called Strange Adventures, featuring stories by Peter Milligan, Scott Snyder, and Jeff Lemire? Is that something you might be interested in?

The first issue, out in May will 8 ten page short science fiction stories, including the debut of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso's new story, Spaceman.

As far as I'm concerned, short sci-fi stories from top Vertigo talent is exactly what I want to see in my stack. Granted, I think it will still be a tough sell to the general audience, but you never know.

They're starting off with this Paul Pope Mark Buckingham variant cover. And that looks like Metamorpho, whom I love, and who is also part of the DC Universe proper. Tantalizing, no? I am informed that that is indeed Ultra, the Multi-Alien, whom I do not love like I love Metamorpho, but can perhaps be taught to love. Like in Harry and the Hendersons.

We'll have more when there is more.

  1. Absolutely!! I will also get as many people as I can to read this.

  2. Price point? I’m glad Vertigo is going with top tier talent. Probably the only way to make an antholgy sell these days.

  3. Sign me up! I would totally be into an ongoing anthology series. I love the various specials and all that but they’re never quite that great because its a one shot. I’d love to see a regular kind of anthology.

  4. That looks fantastic.

  5. Dark Horse Presents is back and now this? It’s a good time for anthologies!

  6. @Josh, gotta point out two things:
    1. That’s the Mark Buckingham variant cover
    2. That’s Ultra, the Multi-Alien

  7. On it like a bonnet.

  8. Depends how often it comes out and how expensive though I really like the idea in theory.

  9. Looks interesting. Gonna be checking it out.

  10. I am an anthologist, so yeah, I’ll be getting this.

  11. Dude,  I’m on board.

  12. This is a great idea, though I wish they would print these as the “inside” stories in HOUSE OF MYSTERY. It would be a natural fit, and it would help promote an excellent Vertigo book that never seems to get its deserved share of respect.

  13. YES!!! *Throws a chair out a window*

  14. Sweet. It seems anthology are becoming more available.

  15. This sounds great!

  16. Sounds cool count me in for this.

  17. Sold. Sounds incredible, really excited to get a top tier sci-fi anthology. Hope it’s regular.

  18. I wonder if the Conan clip helped revive this character.

  19. @VitoDelsante  Noted. Thank you.

There was some confusion with the press release, but it’s sorted.

  20. I will buy it.

  21. 80 pages. $7.99. I don’t know where the “10 pages each story” part comes from, but there will be 8 stories in the issue. I guess if there are no ads…

  22. @ghettojourno  –where are you getting the pricing from? I may have to reconsider a 7.99 book. I’ve tried a few, and the value is rarely there for me.

  23. Sold!

  24. @Patman2 Fuck yeah

  25. @wallythegreenmonster  Here’s the DC site solicit: http://dccomics.com/vertigo/comics/?cm=17863

Looks like this is taking the place of the Vertigo Resurrected for the month.

  26. This is gonna be amazing. I can already feel it in my bones…..and spleen too.

I know people are gonna say: “Holy shit!? $7.99!?” But the price is justifible with the huge page count and if you picked up Vertigo Resurrected then it’ll be the exact same format.

  27. On it like a sonnett!

  28. This sounds/looks right up my ally, but I wonder if they’ll eventually give the stories their individual trades(if long enough) or if they’ll recollect them as trade anthologies similar to myspace DHP?

  29. This is a one-shot, not an ongoing.
