UNDYING LOVE Headed to Movie Screens

Hollywood still trawls for any and all available properties in comics, and the latest to be snapped up is Undying Love from Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman and Image Comics. It was bought by Warner Bros. and will be produced by Stephen L'Heureux and Benderspink. The comic creators will actually write the script as well.

The book itself is the tale of a soldier who falls in love with a sexy vampire lady, and they need to go kill her maker (if I may borrow True Blood parlance) so they can be free. It's got a lot of Hong Kong action movie, and is a pretty good read. The art is sort of a stylized photorealistic type, and while it certainly is "yet another vampire story," it's pretty well done. The third of the 8 issue mini-series came out last month. History goes back and forth on whether the series will actually finish.

I’m loving the series, as for being yet another vampire story, it’s the strongest vampire comic I’ve read. Better than most of American Vampire, with the notable exception of the new mini possibily. It’s possibly the art that helps elevate it: “stylized-photorealistic” type is quite an odd turn of phrase! ;)

As for the film, good for them but I can’t say I’m excited in any way, sounds like something that could fail terribly with a poor director. That they’re writing it is a good start though.

Yeh, it’s been really good so far. Not sure about better than AV, but it’s definitely very good.

Yeah, this and Blue Estate have been the huge surprises for me this year. I’ve been loving both. Man…I hope that doesn’t kill Coker’s interest in finishing the project.

@mo6020  Considering one’s been going a lot longer then the other and I haven’t read vol. 2 of AV, I’m not sure I should make a comparision. That said, this “had” me a lot sooner then American Vampire did.

What was that book the creators blatantly published a lone issue of just to land a movie deal? We used to talk about it all the time.

@Jimski  Millar’s War Heroes and Pretty Baby Machine.

Ahh!, Pretty Baby Machine is the one I was thinking of.

  8. Tomm promised to have issue 4 done by SDCC. He’s gotten really good in the past few years as far as finishing what he started (as opposed to 20 years ago when it took him 6 months to finish Vanguard #2).
