Justice League in-fighting is nothing new, but button mashers and Hadouken specialists alike will have another chance to pit their favorite DC Comics characters in savage pixel brawls once more in 2013. The creators behind 2008’s Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe–including writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray—are back with a new one-on-one 3D fighting game focused solely on DC heroes and villains, called Injustice: Gods Among Us. Leading the charge in a newly released cinematic trailer, the cast includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy, with over twenty more playable characters yet to be revealed.
And if you thought the New 52 had a lot of piping, wait until you see these duds. Note the presence of the controversial Wonder-pants as well as a Bat cowl design highly reminiscent of the headgear seen in the Nolan film trilogy.
Ready? Fight.
The fighting game market is pretty tricky and territorial these days. Are the MK engine and sensibilities coupled with a cast derived solely from DC Comics enough to draw players away from the Marvel Vs. Capcom brand or the dozens of tried and true Street Fighter variations available for cheap on virtual consoles? We’ll find out sometime next year when Injustice: Gods Among Us hits Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the Wii U.
For more, head on over to Gamespot.
Did Batman just kick Solomon Grundy into low orbit?
Unfortunately, yes. I’m still eye rolling as we speak.
damn.
chill out.
Nerdotron17 is right. It’s an Injustice how lame that was
One man’s lame is another man’s awesome.
It’s just a game. It’s supposed to be over the top and fun. It’s not a realistic superhero battle simulator.
Is that really supposed to be Harley Quinn with the ponytail double fisting guns? What the heck is everyone doing to our poor girl?
Not really interested in this. I’d rather have RockSteady work on a new Superman game. Resurrect that corpse of a franchise like they did with Batman.
It looks like I would have a lot of fun playing this, if I still played video games.
Im down the last mortal kombat was great
Agreed.
MK vs DC was good. The last MK was great, like you said. I hope and assume that this game will follow suit.
You kids today with your fighting games that have ‘great graphics’ and your wanting to play as characters that have ‘unique moves.’ Back in my day, all we had was Justice League Task Force with its 6 or so playable characters, awful sprites, and mullet-y Superman. It wasn’t good, but it was all we had!
Beat me to it!
You’re not wrong about fighting Darkseid though. I never could quite believe my eyes whenever I had Green Arrow take him down.
And, we liked it! We loved it!
I LOVED Justice League Task Force. 😀 It was the first time I ever got to play Green Arrow and Aquaman in a game. 🙂
I want to say I played as the Flash more often than not. I wasn’t a Superman fan quite yet.
I’ll be the one who raises the stakes here.
Has anyone played the Death & Return Of Superman on SNES? It was a Final Fight clone where you fought thousands of variations of, like, 5 enemy sprites.
How dare you. You mean “Streets of Rage clone.”
I never played it, but I desperately want to.
Loving Superman at the time, I played the heck out of that game, Chris. The first two normal Superman levels were the worst, but after you could play as the Cyborg, Steel, and Superboy, the game really shined for me. I’m sure that playing it now would give me a much different experience.
I was probably burnt out on Maximum Carnage at the time, so I don’t think I ever really got that far where I could play Superboy. I would have definitely enjoyed that.
I’ve beaten that Death and Return game like 3 times and for me it never gets cooler than playing as STEEL. That hammer is the best.
Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Checkmate.
JLTF was bad. Too slow and clunky. I never really liked the feel of the Capcom fighting games in the first place, which JLTF desperately tried to copy.
BUT it did have awesome DC superheroes in it, which made it sorta fun.
Justice League Task Force was like nirvana considering that my first superhero game was Atari’s Superman!
Anybody play Justice League: Task Force back in the day? Would’ve been on SNES/Genesis. You could fight Darkseid!
As Despero!
That is some piping hot footage.
I have now decided that I LOVE PIPING!
It’s bad ass. Image Comics thought they were cool back when they started? Piping kicks their SavageWildSpawnBlood asses.
When I play video games (which is rare) I just smash the buttons until an outcome is reached. So, yeah, this looks like my kinda thing.
I hate the fighting games with super complex controls that only hardcore dudes who study the game know.
The best fighting games are easy to learn, hard to master. I hope that’s what we’re getting in this game.
Oh, this is sooo gonna end well… -face palm-
Let’s talk characters.
They’ve confirmed Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Solomon Grundy and Harley. The total count is said to be around 28, same as MK vs. DCU. If you count the character that appears to be Luthor, that leaves something like 22 slots.
So who do you want to see? What character would most tempt you to pick this up?
Ambush bug
John Constantine. His signature moves would be chain smoking and sardonicism.
Black Canary is basically a repaint of Sonya Blade anyway.
Plastic Man.
The Shade. (Would be baller and recite Oscar Wilde quotes as his finishing move taunts.)
If there’s a western DLC, I’d play as Bat Lash all day long.
The Question and/or the Redeemer.
@Paul: Man, oh man, do they need a DC western video game.
They could probably just mod Red Dead Redemption and put Jonah Hex in as the main character.
Plastic Man can be a fun character to play.
But since the Wildstorm characters are now apart of the DCu, I would give my local video game store all the money if you can play as Midnighter or pretty much anyone from WildC.A.Ts.
Green Lantern
but instead of costume variations, give us different lanterns to play as – Gardner, Rayner, Stewart, Jordan
or instead of costume variations, give us different color lanterns to play as – Sinestro, Atrocitus, Walker
and again… Gorilla Grodd
Green Arrow will probably get a spot, but I’m hoping to see Dr. Fate one too.
Detective Chimp!
And Darkseid as the final boss right? Too obvious?
@Paul Toss in Hex, Vigilante, the Trigger Twins, and Cinnamon and I’m sold!
As for additional characters, with the big push that DC had for Booster in DCU Online, I’m hoping we’ll see him. And yes, that would totally sell the game for me.
Figure we’ll probably see Captain Cold and Grodd, Luthor and Brainiac, Joker and Bane.
@MaxPower If Ambush Bug was in this game, I would never stop playing it. EVER. It would end my marriage.
SWAMP THING.
Damien would be fun, hopefully comes with some condescending quips about the opponent he is facing. The vegetarian version of course.
Animal Man would be cool too. Switching into different animals mid battle, growing wings to fly around and so on.
If Vertigo is on the table, Dashnel from scalped would be sweet, using nunchucks, powering up with shots of shitty whiskey.
But come on, we all know what game would get all of our Money. Marvel vs DC Battle Royal for the Comic universe/Multi-verse/Earth####!!!
Gorilla Grodd
Looks like someone is shooting ice at Flash, hmmmmm.
Video appears to be gone.
It is
Try refreshing? Link still works for me.
I was a bit psyched for this… until I heard the Mortal Kombat connection.
Sorry, but games like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions have ruined this kind of game for me. I’ll probably pick this up once it reaches the chep bins at Wal-Mart.
Besides, I still have to pick up Arkham City Game of the Year Edition.
must have nightwing just so dick can kick the crap out of bruse
The thing I most hate about video games is that they range from 40 to 60 bucks. Well I guess I better save up for this.
Wait a month or two.
Dude, i’d do anything to get Black Adam on here.
Just me or is this a really strange name for a Justice League fighting game or, well, anything?
Very, very strange indeed. It would be an interesting poem about superheroes, however.
Name sounds a wee bit silly. Why not call it JL: Injustice. Sounds better and people know what the hell it is.
We should get them to change it to Justice League Task Force 2!
Honestly, who still cares about fighting games?
or comics
The last Mortal Kombat game sold really well. And it was great.
I’ll admit I haven’t played a new fighting game in two or three years but what have the recent innovations been? My comment was overly snarky but the point I wanted to make was fighting games kind of seem like one of those outdated genres of gaming based on the specificity of gameplay. Open world, player determined experiences seem like the current, and in my opinion wonderful, trend in gaming. Fighting games seem very much the opposite of that. I’m just surprised they still have such a strong fan base.
@edward: I’m not sure what that comment has to do with anything.
I think the simplicity of fighting games makes it popular enough to warrant big competitive events like EVO.
Well in the most recent MK game they had the usual arcade mode where you fight the CPU, a story mode which told the tale of MKs 1, 2, and 3, and a tower challenge which had like 200 different challenges for you to do. And all 3 were very fun.
And then there is the multi-player and online multiplayer, which some people love (I’m too afraid to test my skills online).
I love open world games, too, (Saint’s Row, Skyrim, GTA, Sleeping Dogs) and I’m not a huge fighting game fan either, but MK brought a lot to the table.
By the way, those costumes?
Appalling. On every level. No other word for them.
(I thought Jay Garrick’s new look was bad but…..yeesh)
Zatana , you have to do all the special moves backwards.
zatanna, swampthing, sandman(morpheus),constantine, alan scott, batwoman, the spectre, the question,id be surprised to get even one of these characters but that would be awesome.
